No matter where I'm at or what I'm doing I'm always thinking about what needs to be done or the ultimate end result...can't ever have fun and enjoy the moment.

Example if the GF is trying to tell me a funny story about something she messed up on, my mind instantly goes to why she didn't think it through first and not messed up in the first place. Even for petty things.

Anyone else just wound tightly like this, what did you do to overcome it?

It’s in your blood. Genetics. My grandfather and father are like this. I can get like this.

Gotta make a conscious effort to be present and slow it down.

Draw you a hot bath with eucalyptus salts and pour yourself a snifter of warm Poire Williams.

Well, it seems you are aware of the problem. That's a start. Whenever I have negative thoughts like this I cuss them back to the the negative hellhole the came from. I'm like, "frick off!" They tend to go away.

Parents and a couple older siblings are like this. Can hardly tell them a funny story without getting cut off to hear the rebuttal or what you shoulda done. Sooo....I just don't talk to them much more than necessary.

I was getting like that for a while at a point when certain work situations were stressing me the frick out. Have to make a conscious decision to compartmentalize and be present in the moment, not mentally jumping back and forth between past and future, or trying to read someone else's mind.

Look into OCPD and anxiety.
I haven't relaxed in 20 years. I have no idea how to. All I do is worry and think.
ETA: Motorboat is correct. Both my mother's and father's families have it. I'm a perfect storm of anxiety, perfectionism, OCPD, ect.
It takes practice to calm it, but it never goes away.

I’ve realized I need to.

Only time in the last ten years where I felt like I was really chillin out and kicking it with friends was when I got high for the first time at my best friend’s wedding.

I’m so bored with most gatherings that I’d rather host because hosting at least gives me something to do.

I've tried all of the meds. I've tried no less than 2 dozen meds over the last decade+. Finally found a couple that work for me about 2 years ago. Pristiq is one.

It's anxiety I'd bet. Ask yourself why you always get obsessed with what needs done.

If it's bothering you to the point you feel like you can't relax or enjoy things, go talk to a therapist.

I think that's pretty normal for most dudes, especially if you're even moderately introverted or Type A. You need some regular friends/casual acquaintances to hang out with time to time who don't know your family or coworkers.

Scope this out:

Medical marijuana in Louisiana

Stay away from Xanax unless it is a last resort.

Nope. Less news, more outdoor activities. No social media other than TD. 2020 taught me to enjoy time at home and outdoor activities. It also taught me to care less about trying to find differences with people and that I don’t need to watch or care nearly as much about sports. Life has improved immensely in the last 12 months for me.
