And it sucks.

Got a scratch on my eye last week that hurt like hell and was aggravating for three days. Healed up just fine so I thought.

Woke up this morning and it was like it had never healed. Just suddenly painful and watery and irritating all day long.

Optometrist diagnosed it as recurrent corneal erosion. Means it may never fully heal because my eyes being open could dry them out so much that it retears and when closed, the eye lid could stick to the cornea and retear it when opening.

I'm now taking eye drops, applying an eyeball cream, and taking doxycycline.

Anyone ever have this? Want to start a support group?

No but I have floating spots in my vision

Looks like I'm staring through a pair of glasses with dirt on them.

But I don't wear glasses and the dirt moves around

I treat this quite a bit. It is a lot more common than people realize. In some cases, the only way to stop it from occurring over and over is to do a laser procedure called a PTK.

I did this on a patient today that had a recurrent erosion that would not stop recurring.

This is literally called “floaters”. I’ve had them my whole life. I hardly notice them unless I’m trying to focus on something in particular.

Yeah I was keeping it together until he mentioned the procedure. I can barely put drops in my eyes without blinking or squirming or acting like a baby. Scraping off part of my eye with a laser? Hells to the no.

Throw a bandage contact on it till it heals up...once healed, lubricate the heck out it. Remember to use Refresh PM before going to bed.

I had that happen after my daughter poked me in the eye. Too a long time and a good eye doctor to help me. Get a sleeping mask, this will help keep your eyes from drying out at night. I like the ones that the eye areas are bulged out so that it doesn't rub on your lids. When you wake up, don't open your eyes immediately, roll them around under your lids like you are trying to look in all directions with only your eyeballs. Then slowly open your lids. This will keep your lids from pulling away at the scar tissue until it can heal properly. Get some good lubricating eye drops, I like Systane Ultra, not too thin or thick. Good luck and I hope it gets better.
