If that stands for the abomination that is the short sleeved button down, your wife is as hopeless as you are.
An exception needs to be made here. Columbia and Drake fishing shirts are not the same thing. Those are OK for casual wear.

You're right, they're way worse.
Uniform of an overweight southerner with a goatee to try to hide his triple chin.

I’m a 35 year old married dad who focuses on his family and spends all his free time doing home repairs/yard work.
I’m okay with whatever you want to say. Those shirts are comfortable and people who actually spend time outside could attest to that.

I *always* ask my wife what she's wearing before we go somewhere "special" (dinner at a restaurant we don't normally go to, party, etc). I then decide what I'm wearing accordingly. Not only level of formality, but whether I'm going earth tones or cool tones.
We do this too.
I love dressing up and always do it. My girlfriends hate me for it

Buttons are among the less practical fasteners at this point in history. Why not just use fabric that's comfortable to pull over your head? Or a zipper? Or hook and eye? Etc, etc? No one is arguing they aren't comfortable. My issue with them is that they are trying to be something they aren't, which is something approaching "nice" or "formal".
If you want to wear casual clothes, wear casual clothes. But no one is getting fooled by the presence of a line of visible buttons that what you are wearing is anything other than casual.

Columbia shirts have been worn by outdoors people for decades. Awesome stuff. Bought my first one in the late 90's and it ran around $100 at the time.
Metros have no use for them, too busy trying to impress each other.

Buttons are much better than zippers. Zippers are heavy and metal sucks

Zippers are faster than buttons. And buttons are heavier than hook and eye, as well as using no fasteners at all.
So why buttons?

My dad has plenty of money but dresses in ragged knit shorts and a t-shirt unless he is going to church. My mom says homeless people dress better than that.

My wardrobe has gone to shite, and I have difficulty mustering a care.
Have a bunch of LL Bean polos and khakis, a couple suits, a couple of those Columbia light weight shirts, some pullovers for winter and shorts and a couple pair of somewhat modern looking jeans.
I cant stand shopping for clothes.

Sounds like a cope for giving up. And you really spend all your free time doing home repairs/yard work?

Yeah, "outdoors people" never engage in any dick measuring when it comes to their attire and equipment. Ever...

I also love how he's throwing around the "metro" description as a pejorative. First, of all, I haven't really heard anyone use that term seriously in the past 20 years or so. Second, he's throwing shade on people who actually care some about how they present themselves.

Decoder Ring actually did a really interesting podcast on the term last year: LINK

Look at his post history from the last couple of years. He’s gotten exponentially worse and more bitter.

This is one of the dumbest things ever written here, and this board has produced some amazingly dumb shite.
