What happened to the bill making DST permanent in LA?

It, along with similar bills passed by other states, awaits Congress changing federal law to allow states to choose to remain on DST permanently.

That's about the dumbest shite in the history of dumb shite.

Noon should be when the sun is highest in the sky.

I’m amazed that some people aren’t. Most of our human existence has been without clocks. The day starts when the sun comes up and ends when it goes down. It’s weird that your body can rely more on something that takes batteries than the giant fireball in the sky to tell you what time it is. I can tell you within 30 minutes of what time it is if I am outside, constantly aware of it.

Obviously people like me are at the disadvantage, but would imagine we are in the majority.

So you want to change the clocks on a daily basis to adjust for when the sun is highest in the sky?

What did you say about the dumbest shite?

I’d vote for a presidential candidate if they say they’d get rid of Daylight Savings Time.

That alone.

Get RID of Daylight Savings Time!!!

Dude, within reason. I don't mind having time zones, but noon should be noon.

Before time zone, though, that's pretty much how it was, everywhere was local time. The problem came in with rail travel and the requisite timetables and schedules.

But for any given place, the sun is pretty much at its highest point in the sky at noon.

If you let DST affect you that much, I don't know how you function in this world.

Yeah I'd assume dealing with kids adds another element of difficulty.

If you're an adult just going through life, I don't see how it's really going to throw one off THAT much.

They are thrown off. They either know it and have egos that won't let themselves be portrayed as anything other than unphased, or they are already so sleep deprived they don't notice the slight variations that come with a shift in circadian rhythm. For many people it will be slight things like forgetting an item or two, a mile time slipping by a few seconds, dropping something on the way to their bathroom, accidentally burning themselves, etc. They will write it off as life. But it's 100% tied to their body trying to adjust to a new schedule.

People like to think they are special and things don't affect them.

Calm down Dave Cohen. And if it was weird to you that it was dark when you left the house. Wouldn't that mean you'd feel like you were early to work, not late?

Hard disagree.

The whole world should go to UTC, and just organize our days around the hours the sun is up.

OR, some people just adjust easier than others.

How old are you? Cause I cannot see how an adult struggles with this. Maybe a child. But if you’re over 12YO, you shouldn’t be “struggling” with a simple time change. Especially since this isn’t anything new.

I'm not sure how changing what time the sun rises and sets is somehow just organizing our days around the hours the sun is up. It seems to me we could still organize our days around the hours the sun is up without having to fool ourselves into thinking it's a different time than it really is.

No matter how hard you try, you are only going to get as many hours of daylight as the solar system allows. Maybe we should just work with that and not try to speed up and slow down the rotation of the Earth every year.

We're saying the same thing.

Im just radically shifting the typical hours the sun is up in our part of the world. Sunrise at 1 pm and sunset at 2-3 am most days. Get the whole world on the same clock. Sure those near the prime meridian wont have a big change and the US and Asia would but we also wouldnt have to worry about time zones anymore.
