It's not really poor. It's poorer than the US, but so is everywhere. It's considered a high income country.

It also had socialist parties in power for 22 of the 45 or so years, when conservatives in this country freak out about any slight movement leftward, I'm skeptical they would move to Spain.

I'd recommend Djibouti. Or New Iberia if you dont want to spend too much on the move.
