A trip to a steakhouse every once in a while is nice.
Most often I like casual like the Blind Tiger. Nibble on eats, drink some beer and catch a game. Other then that it’s Waffle House and Pizza places.

Based on the replies in this thread I think we need a definition of what constitutes “fine dining”

I don't understand people who make it the focus of their travel vacations. Like they go to Italy but don't give a rat's arse about seeing the Coliseum or the Sistine Chapel, but they hyperventilate when they score a reservation to some Michelin star pasta place or some exclusive private wine tasting. Really? - you can get pasta and wine anywhere.
It’s about the experience. Eating isn’t just about sustaining life, it’s about your senses, experiencing different tastes, textures, smells, etc… Each meal is unique, saying that you can get pasta and wine anywhere is like saying that you can see a chapel anywhere (when discussing the Sistine chapel).

OT "fine dining":
Wearing a sports coat to Golden Corral
Eating inside at McDonald's
Ordering off the menu rather than patronizing the buffet

No way. I love a fine dining steakhouse. First ever was in NOLA. Dickie Brenans. Don’t know if it’s still there.
I went immediately from “no steak is worth that” to “wow this is not outback!”

Never mind, you’re just a dumbass who thinks some gristley arse ribeye with a Michelob is a high class meal
You know I just can’t figure out why people think you’re an unlikeable try hard

A great dining experience isn’t just about the food. I can cook a great steak but I also enjoy a steakhouse that presents a memorable experience.

Because I’m not uncouth?

It really depends. I don’t like shelling out $200 a plate for a spoon full of foam and steam. I do, on occasion like to pay up for some stuff expertly prepared using classical techniques.

I usually find myself disappointed after eating at a nice restaurant, which is why I rarely go to them. Makes little sense to me to pay that much for food when I can cook something at home that will be just as satisfying for a fraction of the price.

If the ole lady insists on eating out, I’d rather be able to wear my PFG (tucked in of course) in the dining room.

Spent 1k on my wifes 50th bday at Mastros in Houston last year. Worth every penny. Never will do it again. Food was amazing. Atmosphere was perfect. I prefer cooking fine well plated food at home.

This is all subjective, but I just don’t think a steakhouse (with some exceptions) falls under the category of “fine dining.” I’d almost consider steakhouses to be their own thing.
Even a place like St. Elmo’s wouldn’t be fine dining, IMO. And that’s not an insult to St. Elmo’s.

Every now and then , for maybe for our anniversary.

I can grill a nice steak at home for way less than at a restaurant, so that is what I choose to do.
Posted on 9/25/25 at 12:30 pm to braves21
I don't like going out to eat anymore especially fine dining. While it's good the majority of the time, it is never worth the cost IMO..

I’m with you. I’d much rather a hole-in-the-wall restaurant with great food than a fancy jawn.
