There is no question he is successful and I give him credit for building what he has built, but I don't "get it".

Check out the reviews for his own restaurants. They’re not good at all. Someone who reviews food for a living should never get less than 5 star reviews at their own restaurants.

One time in Las Vegas I was with several people. Some of them were huge fans of his and decided to go eat at his restaurant.
They said they were somewhat disappointed. They pretty much said it was like eating at a overpriced chain. There was nothing special about the food. They had different combinations that were unique to his place, but the food was chain restaurant quality.
From what I read at that time, it was pretty much what I expected, but I am not a fan of going to any chef personalities that become mainstream. There are a few that seem to have legit restaurants, but for the most part, they are selling their name. Especially in places like Las Vegas.. New York. especially if they are located in a more tourist friendly part of the city.

I'm watching Triple D right now. It's a useful show for finding good joints to eat. Guy might be a goofy looking dude but he's pretty harmless. People just like to bitch and feel superior to others for whatever reason. STFU and visit Flavortown once in awhile.

I have friends that have met and or worked with him. They've had nothing but positives thing to say abut him. I believe them, because they've also told me about other chefs they've worked with and told me the truth about them.

Dude is a cook without a palate. I've been to several of the DDD places and about 30 percent are better than a dirty wafflehouse that is short-staffed and serving cold coffee. The other 70 percent are probably closed for health reasons.
He seems like a really nice guy tho so I would high five him for that.

A coworker of mine is good friends with him, they were on a bar be que team together for a while. Says hes a sincere guy, and very nice.
