Mardi Gras is great. It's the uncontrollable tourists, retarded city and idiots that can make it cringe. I went to the quarter once in my 18 years I lived there during MG and I'll never go again. You don't just see titties, you see dicks and old fat vagines. It's disgusting. And they are mostly tourists. They come and shite/puke/piss all over the city. If you do it right, MG can be a damn good time. Just have to know where to go, what to eat/drink, where to stay away from and know where to stand.

Mardi Gras has never been my thing personally, but I sense a bit of pulling up of the ladder ITT

So Mardi Gras is great minus everything required to make it happen?

You need the tourists to make Mardi Gras happen? Maybe in the French Quarter.

New Orleans makes a lot of its money on tourism, or at least that’s what I’ve been told here. Mardi Gras is the city’s largest annual attraction.

Leave it to New Orleanians to shite on their bread and butter.

I don't know if it is "cringeworthy" but we haven't attended MG in over 10 years.

We use that week to go on our family vacation (kids and wife are out of school)

Between the balls and parades. Just doesn’t have any allure to me

Maybe I’m too old for it

Nah they commercialized and duplicated it with other shite where they throw beads and candies. Also, when you cancel your celebrity King it doesn't help

Fair point.

I used to love MG, but there’s absolutely nothing about it now that appeals to me.

You don't have kids, right?

My kids love it too much, and I love seeing them happy. I wouldn't do Mardi Gras the way I do if I didn't have them.

I also don't live in a different state

As you get older the MG appeal wears off.

You'd think, but I know plenty of people in their late 40s and 50s that can't wait to get to NOLA every year for it.

I enjoyed it growing up. I also enjoyed taking my children. Now, I try and avoid it when I can, but when the grandkids get a little older, I foresee myself heading back out to the parade routes.

The key is to find someone with an elite setup and house for food, beverage, restrooms, going on the porch or inside to take a break, etc.

No kids. I can see how bringing them if it’s in your backyard is fun. But to travel and go? Nope. Someone could offer to pay for my flights, lodging, and tell me they have a setup on St. Charles in front of their house and I would still politely decline. Even if they said they would pay for me to be on a float. I guess I would go if a parade wanted to name me the king, but that has a lot more to do with my egomaniacal personality than it does Mardi Gras.

I enjoyed it as a child, loved it as an idiot college student. But its not something I have an interest in being around anymore.

doesn't really do anything for me either.... it's sort of like Halloween, to me, now... a reason for otherwise normal adults to dress up, act stupid, and think they are "cool"... i mean, do what you gotta do, but just ain't for me
