My daughter was born in October 2019. With COVID BS she was not around many children at all for the first 18 months. When we moved back to Brazil about 7 months ago we put her in a school to be around other kids for 4 hours a day. She got sick it seemed every week. Most of the time just couch or runny nose. Few times she come down with a fever. It's getting to be less and less now. I'm sure it will pass.

On the plus side she is a different kid since she has been in the school. It's been a net positive for sure.

My 4 year old hasn't been sick a single day from pre-K but they all wear mask and wash their hands.

Very common, because before pre-school they had only really been exposed to your family and friends. It'll tamper down as they get older and immune system becomes more resilient. It is why this masking and social distancing of kids is ignorant. All you are doing is making it so that they are exposed to illnesses later in life where the chances of fighting it off are drastically lower, then when they were a toddler.

The rest are too young. But sure, listen to the OT while your parental instinct is telling you something isn't quite right.
Also + for the tubes in the ears. Could be an issue

After about 20-30 colds.
Normal to get them as often as every other week.
Usually by 6, they’re through the worst of it.
If they go to daycare, they get them out the way younger and aren’t sick in preschool.

Just one thing to add - while this is “normal”, don’t be that dickhead parent that loads the kid up on Tylenol and drops him off at school when you know he’s sick just because you have a busy day.

Usually towards the end of the school year. I'm assuming your kid didn't go to daycare? They typically pick up a lot of this at daycare, but if not, they'll catch the rest in preschool. Don't worry about it. It's a good thing. Their immune systems are building up.

ETA: Tubes were a godsend. My oldest had 2 sets of tubes when he was younger. He would get bad ear infections, one so bad that we had to take him to the ER in the middle of the night when he was around 6 months old. My youngest had 1 set of tubes. Ever since they had tubes, it seems they never get sick anymore, other than bringing home stomach virus to us once/year.

My kid started daycare at 6 months and was sick for about 2 years it felt like. Since then, she is never sick. Maybe a cough here and there. They gotta build up that immune system.

We never did daycare. My wife stays home with them.

She is almost 3 and just stared child's morning out when all this shite started.

So far nothing too serious. Just one thing after another it seems like.

The only tricky thing is trying to protect our 3 month old. So far she hasn't gotten sick, no fricking idea how that miracle happened. Me and my wife have probably gotten sick from about half the shite she gets.

Would giving the toddler some of my wife's extra breastmilk help? Seems to work for the baby...

I have 5 kids. All went through daycare and all were sick many times while there. Once they started grade school, however, they were rarely sick. I don’t think my oldest missed more than 5 days all throughout high school.

Not only did the ear infections stop with tubes, but my oldest all of a sudden just took off with his speech. Turns out it's harder to learn to speak when you constantly have fluid in your ears and can't hear well. We had tubes put in our second boy a lot sooner than our doctor had us wait for the oldest

How sheltered were they before preschool? As others have said, if this is their first experience with groups of essentially strangers on a daily basis, it's called giving their immune system an education. It is normal and what you actually want, despite inconveniences.

Mine were around other kids from the get go, especially kids 2 thru 4. #4 especially was at siblings sporting events starting at about 2 weeks being oohed and awed over by dozens of snotty, germy 8-10 year olds. None of them went to daycare, but they each had had all the random ickies before they started preschool. #4 probably has the strongest immune system out of any of them. From preK-12, she had to go to the doctor once for strep. That was it.

Completely normal. It will take a year or two for the immune system to get ramped up.

Our first two went to preschool/daycare. They are a petri dish and while never fully stopping, eventually your child's (assuming normal and healthy) immune system will be better able to fight some of these things off.

On a similar note. I got into poison ivy cutting trees in the woods.

It's bad enough I had to go to the doc and they put me on prednisone for 13 days 30 mg for 3, 20 for 5, and 10 for 5.

How much will this frick with my immune system? Like am I guaranteed to now get my kid's cold/virus/whatever?

It will be about a year off and on. But kids are high maintenance. I have a great wife that gets them to the shop when the light comes on most of the time

I also have a mother in law that will look at you like you refuse to feed your children if she hears them cough.

That miracle happened because she has her mom's immunity still to a lot of things, but don't be too worried. Having her catch a few things isn't a bad thing as it helps her build up her own immunity since mom's does eventually wear off.

Pretty sheltered, especially since the pandemic. But not completely isolated. I never kept her from other kids, she just didn't see them every day.

She did go to toddler gym, the playground and was around kids at nursery at church but that was all only a 2-3 times a week.

Guess we're just catching up since no daycare.

It doesn't help that toddler age kids are nasty little creatures. eating boogers, diggin in their arse, dropping food literally anywhere and still eating it. My youngest is four and the dude is always sticky.
