Wrong, capitalism is an economy built on self interest. A buyer and a seller coming to an agreed upon price, called a free market. No one pushes you to live beyond your means except for your peers and advertisers...It is still up to you what you spend your money on.
I suppose you assumed capitalism is built on greed and that is bad for everyone and big brother should come make it fair for you and tell you what and when to buy?

Life is pretty fricking awesome when you stop giving a shite what anyone else thinks.
Of course, my woman similarly doesn't give a shite, and I don't have kids, so that makes it a lot easier to stay away from the pressures of society. We basically only spend our money on things we actually genuinely want.

everyone should feel manipulated bc it is happening. Lookup Cass Sunstein
The Book: Nudge by Cass Sunstein
He lays out the gameplan to influence us into whatever the Mainstream / Elites want us to do.

Everything is phony. When you see or hear someone or something authentic, it’s almost shocking. You have to fight through ten layers of phony to find something pure and real. It’s why cats like us gravitate towards the natural world and good music and a good meal and competitive sports and all the time honored stuff.

The media has been trying to influence and control the minds of the people since its inception.
Free men are dangerous to those in power

There are definitely situations in which this is not the truth.

Well its certainly a dumb thing to say
We are all being manipulated. By the people around us who are trying to sell themselves to the companies that are trying to sell us their products.
It isn't a bad thing. It is the product to an open society.
I don't understand that downvotes for me calling this capitalism.
People get all butthurt whenever someone even implies something negative about capitalism.
I'm a big fan of capitalism. It has benefited me and mine greatly. The positives definitely outweigh the negatives.
Some people just get bent out of shape when said negatives are even thought of, let alone spoken about. It's weird.

Nothing new under the sun. I think the best way to avoid or ameliorate it is small units of accountability (from family to neighborhood to community, with all its institutions, from libraries, schools, symphonies, and city councils to churches sports teams and soup kitchens) with a side of good old-fashioned shame. Without that organic governance is either state of nature capitalism or state of nature authoritarianism. Or a fascist combination of the two.

Society, no. Liberalism, yes.

Yeah, of course.
America is being programmed every single day.
They think and do as they’re told.

I've just accepted it and live accordingly. Makes it easier than thinking.
