From what I have heard of it, it seems like a cult experience. The pay and hours seem to suck and the work sucks and all that, and they churn and burn more than a Big Four CPA firm.
I don't get it.
I don't get it.

I worked for Enterprise for fifteen months. It was almost twenty years ago, so who knows how much has changed, but the few times I've needed to rent a car since then, it looks like the same, soul sucking grind it was when I worked there. It wasn't the worst professional experience I've ever had, but your life will suck while you're there.
The pros...great sales experience, learning to deal with the public and operating a business, coworkers have a chance to be cool, it looks good on a resume because employers know that if you can deal with Enterprise, you can deal with almost anything (Enterprise churns thru employees), if you can stick it out for 4-5 years, you can make some real money...most employees would cut off a limb to get out of rental into any other dept, the summer and Christmas party that they go all out for that they think repays you for ruining the other 363 days of your life each year.
The cons...ruining your clothes (ties, dress shoes, dress shirts, jackets), the hours, there's almost no time off, the crappy pay when you figure out what you actually make per hour to deal with unhappy customers (they all hate you...they hate the insurance company, the body shop where their car is getting fixed, the person who hit them/who they hit, and then you're next in line), the pressure to sell Damage Waiver (fake insurance that no one needs, but all your promotions are based off it), picking people up, you'll hate the service manager at every body shop/car dealership within a five mile radius, the area managers are all shady versions of Michael Scott, you'll hate the customers that will try to get over on you (which is most of them), taking reservations for cars you know'll never have.
It's a great place to get a start, and realize you'll want to get out once it's been on your resume long enough. Talk to the people you have to pick up, network, and always be looking for another job while you're there. The day I quit, I didn't have anything else lined up, I just knew I had to get out, or I was going to kill myself. It was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great job right out of college to learn managerial skills and organizational skills that will serve you well as you progress in your career.
What happens is everyone shows up close to closing time and you end up working till later than you should have to.

Same. He still works for them, but he does fleet leasing now. He seems to like it and makes good money. They promote from within.

I worked at Hertz for about a year and a half when I first moved to Nashville just to get here, and Enterprise is just like it, and is exactly like what everyone here has said.
it sucks. Pay isnt great. You will work way too much, and you will end up hating humanity.
I will say that working for the company here in Nashville was rewarding in the long term. I got to know people in music, tv, and other areas(many famous), and I have a great job now that I love, and make damn good money.

I work in pharmaceutical sales management and have hired 50+ former Enterprise employees as pharmaceutical / bio tech reps - great training, but a tough job. Definitely worth it for the training and a great stepping stone to better job down the road.....long hours, average pay, excellent training...never heard any of the weird stories (probably best that I didn't)...good luck

Thanks man. Feel like I’m gonna need it. The hiring process is rigorous

I know who you are. You’re still a legend good sir

I work there for about 6 months 10 years ago. I can’t imagine a worse job. Always getting my tie sucked up by the vacuum hose pretty much summed up my feelings on the job.
Most days you would have to be at work by 6:30 a.m. and you would leave around 6:30 p.m. Pay was 33,000$. Work every other Saturday. You have to convince angry customers who most likely just wrecked their car that they should purchase the enterprise insurance when the insurance they have isn’t covering the type of vehicle they wrecked. It’s a beautiful experience.

Make sure to ask for the branch on or closet to MLK. You'll be able to start at least a thread a day from the experience.

As if you have to sell crap at a rental car counter. Except perhaps some chickenshit full coverage insurance a la Seinfeld.

Thought this was going to be about Enterprise, the O&G giant out of Houston. Carry on.

Also, be prepared for some disgusting returns. Used condoms, hand guns, drugs, dirty diapers and old spoiled food are just a few of the things you should be prepared to clean up in the return cars. (Don't assume you will have a car prep on staff to the clean cars, they call in or don't show up often, leaving you to clean the car).
A buddy of mine had to rent a car for a week or two after an accident. After like 4 days of complaining about the smell, he finally checked out the trunk to find a big bag of rotting garbage.
