The Weavers weren't scum
Yes they were.
They aligned themselves with neo-nazis, and Randy was selling illegal guns for what he believed were members of that organization.
While there were mistakes made by both sides, he and his wife did everything possible to escalate the events.
Listen to the Timesuck episode on Ruby Ridge. The host grew up in Idaho and believed what you do until he did the research for the episode.
The Weavers brought about a self-fulfilling prophecy because he didn't want to go to court. And it resulted in the death of US Marshall and his wife and son.

The FBI had a legit reason to go get Koresh. He was a nut who was molesting girls in his "cult." Of course, the operation went south and the ATF handled it all very poorly. The kids they were trying to protect were mostly killed in the raid, so it was all a big fail.
Ruby Ridge was a whole other animal. They went after Weaver strictly for his political views.

No, but I don’t know if I paint them 100% as the bad guys either. Over the years you hear so much shite about things like this I don’t know what to believe is the truth on either side of these incidents that happen.

OMG. RW was a white separatist that wanted to be left alone way out in the middle of the woods in the mountains.
The ATF went after him for a shotgun that was about an 1/8 of an inch shorter than the legal limit.

'Mistakes'? RW's wife was standing in a door with a baby in her arms when that thug decided to shoot her.
A trigger happy goon who was itching to take out anybody killed an innocent woman who was holding her baby in her arms.
And you call that a 'mistake'?
You are one pathetic individual.

Didn’t the Branch Davidians light their own compound on fire?

You should listen to the Timesuck podcast on this.
Especially the Parts where he reads her letters to the courts leading up to the stand-off.
For over a year the government tried to get Weaver to show up for his court date. He and his wife responded with threats.
It all went to he'll after a Marshall was killed by a Weaver.
Before that death, the FBI was still trying to do everything to make a peaceful resolution.

And when that failed they just decided to straight up murder his wife.

I had a retired FBI agent try to defend it. I just shook my head

When the kid noticed a bunch of dudes who never announced who they were in camo with rifles hiding in the weeds shooting his dog.

It's telling how you continue to leave out the part where the Weavers drew first blood.
I wonder: would you be so defensive of someone who aligned themselves with the Black Panthers if the circumstances were the exact same?

frick the ATF.
They're the tyrants that the 2A provides the authority to defend against.

Armed men in camo show up at your place and kill your dog, what is your first instinct?

Doubtful

Where do you get this info? Authorities shot the dog first. Actually one of the agents was shot by his own men...in the back. You have got to be kidding if you are backing the agents on this debacle. Not to mention the cover up, the prior set up, etc....
I wish Weaver and his family terminated more.
