OK, domesticated horses are not "wild" animals. However, horses are absolutely f****ing retarded. I mean, one in a thousand is really, really clever. And they have some good instincts. But the rest are really, really stupid. You're not entirely irrational about them.

You should hear her conformation critique of Kenneth

I had a goldfish like that. Well, except for the whiny bitch part...

Only time I’m scared of horses is when they’re in a parade being rode by a black dude. I don’t know if it’s a training issue or if they aren’t ridden enough but those horses always seem to be one click away from running mad through the crowd.

Those horses are trained specifically for that type of environment

Those horses are generally parading with some ace on board

Not afraid, but I damn sure respect them.
I wouldn't call a horse that is brought to a child's birthday party a "wild animal".
Back in college, I had a friend who had horses and his family also had a huge area of land that had some wild ones on it. One day we decided to catch one and try to ride it. I still don't know how we survived that idea.

She starts off with some real sounding shite then ends it with something crazy.
It’s probably a movie quote that I am unaware of.

Not sure what you mean but,
I’m not talking police or rodeo type horse in big parades. I’m more referring to chicken runs and small town country type “parades”. I’ve seen a few start bucking and come crashing down on evacuated lawn chairs.

I ain't scared of them but I don't like them. I got bit on the arse one time by a horse, been pissed at them ever since.

actually. Most people don't know this, but a horse has something called the Torgussen's gland.
It's part of their defense mechanism. A horse's first line of defense is to run, that's why they bolt when they are spooked. Say you have a herd of horses and a mountain lion is sneaking around one part of the herd, it scares a few; then the others sense that fear and they all take off.
That's why it's hard for scared or nervous people to learn to ride. The rider is all antsy so the horse is thinking, shite, must be something close by ready to eat my arse, I'm getting the f out of here. When A horse spooks, an inexperienced rider will tend to clamp their legs into the horse and lean forward. Most horses are trained that these two motions mean go, which urges them on. To make the situation worse, they will usually run for a copse of trees to take cover.
I haven't seen many grown-ups successfully learn to ride a horse. As kids, we haven't learned to fear things like we do as adults. A grown-up looks at a horse and thinks of the 257 ways this thing can kill. Most kids just think giddy up.

I have been skittish around them since watching one rare back at a Mardi Gras parade, and fall into the crowd. Left a lifelong impression on a 7 year old.

No, I'm not scared of them.
I've seen very few "bad" horses. I have seem numerous bad riders and owners.

A horse can sense the feeling of fear
A good buddy of mine had mentioned several times over the years that horses have always hated him. I didn't really buy it but didn't argue the point. This past Memorial Day we went to a bbq at my cousins house and damn if two different horses didn't try to bite him. We were on bikes so it's possible the horses just didn't like the loud bikes and remembered who rode them but they didn't try to attack me. I thought it was hilarious but hey, I'm an a-hole.

Unfortunately, it sounds like many of you have had bad experiences with horses. I don't blame you for your sentiment. IMO, horses are meant to be used and not for pleasure animals, but that's just me. We have horses that we use for cattle purposes and I would not put anyone on them that was not a seasoned rider with experience around cattle. It would be like putting an AR in the hands of someone that had never held a gun before and telling them to try it out. Something bad is bound to happen. However, there are some old plugs that you can put just about anyone on but not so many nowadays.

Most of the time, no. But I’ve been around some bigass drafts like shires, clydes and Belgians that could kill you in five seconds and it makes you think twice about getting anywhere remotely close to them.
But, they’re also beautiful and fun to ride, so you must choose wisely.

Horses are supposed to react to the humans they are around. The last time I went horseback riding, the horse kept biting my boots and running me into trees. Was a real a-hole of a horse.
But like dogs, some horses are just better than others. They all have different temperaments
