Horse therapy is great and something I would consider getting certified and practicing it for children with autism or anyone with poor vestibular and proprioceptive abilities.

I guided trail rides for about 2 years, and have ridden for a good part of my life so I've been run through the mill with just about every scenario.

The best/worst month was when we were trying out new horses. Some lady would just drop off a few horses for a week, we would try them out and if they did well, purchase them. What a shite show that was.

Had one that reared up constantly, I'd punch him on top the head and run the dog shite out of him. Never would stop, he would rear up and then swing his head side to side so it was hard to hit him

Another was a seemingly normal horse, until you put a saddle on him. He was calm and fine, but he walked sideways as soon as you got on him. Strangest damn thing I've ever seen. 45 minute trail ride walking sideways

in all fairness, some of the running QH mares we have are goofy. We've had a couple of cutting horses at the clinic that were flaky too.

depends on the horse.

horses are like huge dogs. people connect with horses like they do with dogs... like an extension of yourself.
if you’re scared of them, you’re an irrational fool.

I don't like them. The only time I rode one was on this guided trail ride in Utah. For no reason at all the horse in front of me turned around and bit me on the leg. It didn't really hurt but I was 9 or 10 so it gave me a hate for them.

Best jumper I’ve ridden was a retired racing quarter mare

There's some truth to that but if dogs weighed 1200 lbs our relationship with them would be completely different.

I met my wife guiding trail rides. Her horse kicked the shite out of me on a regular basis.

I should have probably taken the hint.

Haha. Saw my little brother get knocked off a horse when it went under a branch. I wouldn't say I am afraid of them but have a healthy respect for them.

2. One I bred so of course I’m keeping him.

I like to judge each horse individually. Im not a breed snob. That’s like people who only look for a certain color when buying. And that mare was an appendix.

Tb’s are forever my favorite, though. Maybe they’re just too sensitive a ride for you?

Yes he was that's why I had him. He was free. The trainer was a family friend, sent us all of the shitty ones.

Eta: my dad, my sister and I would take them off the track and work on finding them a second life. Most of them were 6 or younger when we got them. We had some that wound up being pretty good jumping horses, 2 cop horses, a few trail horses, and one bucking horse (yankee).

Can’t have had too many injuries either. Ran in 2003 with 1 start in 04.
