It's due to the gut health right ascension of Boomers.

No more than I've noticed it among any generation over the last 30 years. People tend not to hide it any longer. For some it's a badge of honor and courage, even if there isn't much wrong with them. They embrace the role.

Whenever the phrase
quote:

my truth
entered into the lexicon

Along with people changing the meanings of words that fit a self-description or how they "feel"

I've noticed a sharp decline in mental toughness.

“Mental health isn’t about comfort, it’s about capacity.”

There’s a therapist who pops up on IG who said that and I thought it was a solid perspective. Too many people are unable to handle discomfort and pain. It’s ridiculous, sad, and dangerous. You have to be able to compartmentalize and endure it.

Therapy culture. Many peoples feed is full of mental health topics, so you ruminate on issues, and self pathologize but don’t actually get help from a therapist. Hustle culture is close behind. Osessions of being physically perfect and obtaining business success.

Mental illness is a real thing. But we’ve also become a soft society that doesn’t believe in individual accountability.

Kids who live their lives online life ask for mental illness.

It's called life in 21st century America. Too bad you didn't see it before.

Have you seen the titties on these young men lately. I don’t mean man boobs I mean pointy round titties. Old fashioned seventies woman titties on men and young boys.

People have always dealt with this but they hid it from others. I think it’s healthier to be open about it. Keeping everything in and then one day blasting yourself with a shotgun is not optimal.

Self medicating, food/sex/gambling addictions....all ways that people deal with depression when it is not diagnosed or they feel like its embarassing. It is a positive step in the right direction that many more people are willing to deal with mental health issues than we did in the past. They have always been present, we just forced people to ignore them until they could not function.

lack of physical work. we were not meant to look at screens all day.

There is an awful lot of truth in this.

I am in the process of milling up right at about 70K board feet of 75 year old Southern Yellow Pine because I am too hard headed to pay to put it in the landfill. I start working on it around 7 AM on Fridays and work until about 4-5 in the evening. I do this on Saturday as well. Most days I do not eat during the day. I spend about half a day on Sunday doing maintenance on the mill and the tractor. I am mentally and physically exhausted when I quit in the evening. This is damned hard work, almost as hard as cutting pulpwood or hanging sheetrock (indoor pulp wooding). I am happy as a pig in slop while I am doing this and DREAD going to the office on Monday and spending 10 hours basically sitting on my arse. Humans are not designed to be lethargic and live 80+ years. Living that long is fantastic but we still need a lot of physical activity to be healthy physically and mentally....

That mentally healthy people should visit a damn psychiatrist is one of dumbest things I’ve ever heard.
