Nahh. The first disbursement of the lottery fund is to road infrastructure. To go along with the gas tax as usual. The roads are fine.

My dad did meet a couple from the Midwest in Tennessee at a stop on the Natchez Trace. They made a point to avoid then Highway 78 (now I22) to travel I40 through TN and back down because they thought Highway 78 (now I22) was gravel.

They were then informed they took a worse stretch of road to go a longer distance and they really should check Google street view next time.

Moved from Texas to MS January of 23. Don't regret it at all. Downsized, built a 40x60 shop on 10 acres and got a bunch of chickens. Property tax, wind storm and homeowners during and after Covid did it for me.

I know Austin is a hipster woke town but it was clean with no crime when I lived there. MASSIVE culture shock by how NICE all service people were. Stores were clean, well stocked with FRIENDLY employees.

The nightly news wasn't loaded with crime stories. Car wreck or fatality of the day because that was the other thing. Texans drive fast and they don't slow for exit off ramps.

The only annoying thing was Texans talking about how they only do business with other Texans. One clown used to break that spiel out to me all of the time. I really wanted to remind the douche he wasn't originally from Texas.

No state income tax was nice but you need to remember they need to get the money somewhere so license and registration and any government service costs a good bit more.

Anybody do the opposite, move from Texas to one of these two states to settle down? How has your experience been?

I applied for many jobs in Louisiana. The stagnant economy provided very limited opportunities.

I cast a wider net. Texas came through.

It had a much lower cost of living (and still does), with more competitive wages, safer neighborhoods, better schools, better entertainment options, and so on.

Needless to say I got rich and was able to retire at age 55.

My life is so much better than if I had stayed in Louisiana.

Very true. Already tons of potholes where I live in Texas anyways.

The biggest myth that commonly gets repeated on the OT. MS isn’t the tax haven this board would have you believe just because they got a buccee’s.

Louisiana is cheaper because it has one of the highest poverty rates in the United States. Primary reason why people leave here & don’t move here.

IMO, Louisiana was a great place to grow up as a kid (I probably wouldn't say that now though).

It's the worst place in the United States if you're a worker between 22-60 ,weather you're white collar or blue collar.

I will probably stay in Texas to be close to my kids if they stay here. If not, I will probably move back to Lafayette or my wife's hometown in the Latin America unless Texas lowers its property taxes.

I moved back after enduring 3 boring, lonely years in Texas. Does that count?

This is total bullshite. LA is one of the few states you can make 100k doing blue collar work with no college degree.

For all the problems of LA, opportunity for blue collar workers isn’t one.

They're just going to replace it with property taxes which are worse imo. I'll have less income in retirement. My property taxes almost never go down.

No it isn't. Oilfield guys, construction guys, plant workers, electrical workers, HVAC guys make way more in Texas than they do in Louisiana.

In Houston and looking to come back soon. Cost of living has gone through the roof. I can spend the same money and get all my family, friends, 10acres and a built home for the same as Houston.

That being said there are only about 3 place in LA I would live and I happen to be from one. frick moving back to the majority of the state.

You take family out of the question and I am not moving to LA or MS.

MS does have a couple really good areas that rival the best of LA except maybe job opportunities there.

Brandon/Madison area wouldn't hurt my feelings at all. Similar to the Northshore before Katrina and all the sprawl.

Grew up in Covington, La and moved to Frisco, Tx to start my career in 1998 and stayed there till 06 and wanted to move back to Louisiana to be closer to family. I don't regret it. I enjoy Louisiana for what it is but I also know that Texas will always have more money and more jobs. Moving to Covington now from Prairieville. Covington imo is the best to live in Louisiana.
