Bullllllllshit. When did you start tailgating? It's better than it was in the 90s that's for sure. But if you were a student between 2003-2007 then yea it's not as wild on a weekly basis. But big games are still HUGE tailgating weekends.
Student from ‘97-‘02. Left BR in ‘11.
It ain’t what it used to be. I used to park the trailer outside of CEBA on Friday nights. My job was complete. Others took over at 6 am on Saturday and it was rocking when I arrived for breakfast around 9am…and that was a night game vs La Tech.

Ok man, just be ready when your 11 year old comes home and tells you a girl in their class is pregnant.

Drive 3-4 hours south and you’ll hate NOVA even more. South central Virginia is beautiful and a great place to raise a family.

The smaller games are absolutely smaller by all accounts(crowd, tailgating, etc), but that's not just an LSU problem. That's a Bama problem and any big program problem. People are staying home and watching on big screens in 4 million k HD instead of paying for expensive tickets, fighting traffic and such.
But the big games are bigger than ever and the tailgates follow suit.
Fun/sad fact: I skipped the 97 Florida tailgate/game for a rugby party. Still kick myself as we watched the game huddled around a shitty tv at a shitty Brigthside apartment in stupid togas.

You are making those memories with your kids now where you are.
That’s a great point. Your kids won’t understand the joys of bourbon shots on GAMEDAY as you did decades ago.
They already making memories. Of riding bikes until the street lights come on. Don’t change their life bc of your memories. Keep those memories and let than make their own.

Keep in mind that you can move to the south within a day's car drive of BR/NOLA, get a slower pace, and still be able to visit with family more often. I live just east of Austin TX and we can drive to BR in 7 hours.

I will be looking to get OUT in my early 40's. I am not saying I am moving far, but very few places inside the city limits appeal to me.
I don't care about the gang members murdering each other, I don't fit the demographic of the people getting killed in BR. Its the entirety of BRPD that refuses to enforce laws that lead to a better quality of life and protecting ones right to enjoy their own private property.

I moved back to BR from Prairieville and I love it. No traffic or 90 minute commute.

I’m not shitting on LSU. It’s the state of all college sports. The sport is marketed to the guy on the couch. Not the guy in the seats.
Yes, every sport and every school dealing with this issue. I didn’t make a conscious decision that tailgating wasn’t as fun anymore. Maybe I grew out of it. Maybe other options became available. Maybe both.
But you can’t deny, it’s different. And not for the better.

We're a stones throw from Pville in Gonzales and planning the same move in Fall 2023. I know it sounds crazy. Ah well. I love my city and we'll find something great in Kenilworth/Southdowns/MidCity/Garden District

The main reason I’m sticking around is I make a very good living here, have a very nice house and two kids that are 11 and 7. I call this Disney World north as there’s little to no crime outside of DC, the median income is well north of 6 figures and just nothing truly that bad happens here. No first world problems at all
You must work for the government. Always the best for them!

Don’t do it. I moved back 5 years ago to be closer to family.
Definitely not the Baton Rouge I remember

We changed our entire tailgate routine two seasons ago. Covid could be to blame but it was for the better. We now tailgate at the in-laws in TD Village with RV and such. MUCH different than being on the Parade Ground for 18 years prior. I think we outgrew that scene as well.

I will say unequivocally without a doubt this is my A#1 failure when we decided to move. We pretty much looked at DC/nova and that was it. No kids at the time and plenty of friends up here (and we had the ability to live closer inside the beltway as we could live smaller).
That is the single (arguably now the most important) factor that wasn’t taken into consideration is the ability to drive in for a game, for holidays etc etc. We still drive when we come and visit because it’s just easier and we always stop along the way, but that 18 hour drive blows monkey balls. If I had the chance to do it all over again, I would have moved somewhere within 6-7 hours driving distance to BR/NOLA

Haha similar story bud. Invited a friend and he got kicked out. Watched one play live and went back to the dorm with him. Still remember watching the game on a 13” tv and hearing the roar of the stadium while smoking outside after the fumbled KO following the pic 6.

Nope, I work in the private sector (financial). I would have blown my brains out a long time ago had I worked for the government. One of the main reasons I want to get out of here.

Interesting. Why do you regret it? If your profile is not bs you’re a surgeon so like me you can probably just about afford to live anywhere in BR and are making good money

So he’s basically asking if anyone wants to admit to being an idiot. Even if I made that terrible decision I wouldn’t brag.

Yes but the crime is so widespread now. It’s crazy. See the incident at Perkins Rowe in recent weeks.
It’s sad to see the city going this direction so fast.
Ultimately of course you need to do what’s best for you and your family.
I’d encourage you to be very thoughtful and put the heartstrings aside
