Dentist recommended one because of the clenching I’ve got going on in my mouth. I feel like I got lockjaw at times when I wake up for moments.

Anybody have any experience with these?

I think the one that’s being recommended is like $600, which I’m sure my luck is football like mouthpiece they can make for $25. But I don’t know...that’s why I come to you people.

Yup, I wear one every night. Canines are ground down to its flat.

A friend of mine is a dental tech so he made it for me (fits the grooves of my teeth), but he said even the OTC mouthguards are just as good.

The entire point is to reduce teeth-on-teeth grinding

Well I’m going to have to wear it during the day too because I work a lot on the computer.

It’ll be easy while I’m working from home but I’m sure I’d look like a doofus in the office. Will have to be something to do at the desk.

My back teeth have been feeling the pressure by it. There is no significant damage but I think he is recommending it as a prevention technique.

I think the one I get from dentist is maybe $150-300, can’t remember exact amount. I think it’s basically an Invisalign type mouthpiece. Stiff but thin, so it’s not like a thick football guard to protect from injury but keeps teeth from contacting each other.

ETA: I use this kind also as a retainer to keep teeth from shifting. If you just worry about grinding, I’d imagine anything that keeps your teeth from touching would work.

I do
And that is going price...not usually covered by insurance

They will make an impression of your bite and probably make it for your lower set...
Other than the sore jaw you are grinding enamel off and potentially encouraging cracking... when older years of clenching and grinding result in weakened teeth/problems

I do. Over the counter. Throw away when it gets funky. Repeat.

You can try the OTC versions first if you like. That's what my dentist initially told me to. I ground through those in short order and I also cracked some teeth. Dentist made me one which was about the same cost you quoted. I ground through that one pretty quickly also. She made another one with a sturdier material which has lasted a lot longer than the previous ones, but I'm starting to crack it, also. Had to get some crowns on the damaged teeth and she makes me a new one at no extra cost when we do that.

I don't grind when I'm awake. I clench on occasion when I'm on the computer working, but not much.

It's not at as bulky as I expected. Fits well and sometimes, I forget to take it out as soon as I get up.

Thank you. That’s a cautionary tale. I’m going to have them make me one. It’s expensive but FSA should cover it. I’m trying to avoid all that. I find the clinching happens regularly when sitting at the computer

My dentist recommended I wear a thin one during the day, so it's almost invisible and a thicker one at night. I started with the thin one at night to get used to it, but I ended up fraying the ends which caused a different problem. Now, I only wear the thick guard at night, and have since lost the thin guard.

I had mine molded at my dentist office (think I paid $500 for the pair) and it has lasted over 7 years. I brush it every morning after I take it out. I let it sit in an empty glass during the day. When I get ready for bed at night, I soak it in a glass of mouth wash. Every 1-2 weeks I brush it with baking soda, then soak it in white vinegar.

I wear on every night. It takes a week or so to get used to but now I cannot sleep without it. I originally got one from the dentist. When it wore out, I have gotten them from Wal Mart.

This is the one I get LINK

This is the most comfortable otc type that I've worn. Wore them for years before I naturally stopped grinding my teeth.

Grinding can do some serious damage to your teeth. The cost of a good mouth guard is nothing compared to what you may have to pay to fix the issues or the pain you could experience. I've been lucky that I haven't had any TMJ issues or headaches. My dentist had me clench and she said my jaw muscle is like a brick. If I bite someone, they're not getting away!

My doctor suggested that I start getting Botox in my jaw to keep me from grinding through the night guard. Has anyone tried that?

I’ve used one for years. My dentist had it made and fitted it for me. It’s holding up well.

I’ve had it so long I can’t remember what it cost. A few hundred I would guess.

I clench my lower jaw, not teeth grinding, but I tried Botox earlier this year. It was an immediate help but cost $500 and only lasted 8 weeks.

Yes. I bought one from Walgreens for like $10 and it works fine.

I wear one every night and have for about two years. I should have been doing it for the past twenty years. A friend of mine wears one and he says he clinches and grinds his teeth asleep or awake all the time.
