Anybody ever get too apathetic in life?

I feel like it’s temporary, and it usually is. But I just don’t have the desire to go to work. I’m not too excited about anything, LSU football, Spurs basketball, etc.

Miss TexasTiger has been working 12 hour days. She has this problem where she kind of likes her job.

I’m not sure why I’m excited to get home, maybe because I can take a nap or something. Lately I find that I enjoy working in the yard, cleaning up the property day by day, etc.

Maybe this is just sports-related apathy. I’m not sure. I’m not sad, or depressed. Just...blah. Anybody else ever go through these stretches?

You need a real hobby. Something that has goals and accomplishments.

I’ve taken up distance running and am now training for a full marathon. Always hated running but it’s fun once you get your base miles up.

Find something that works for you.

yep....nothing major, but my general enthusiasm does fluctuate.

Honestly, I usually find that it happens when I overdo it at work. I usually don't feel burned out, but if I just force myself to take a day or so of time off, I usually pick up a bit when I get back.

You live in the best time ever to be born and are richer, healthier, and more educated than billions who died before you. You live in the most powerful nation the world has ever known. You have a family and a job, both of which you got to choose. It is a myth that you are supposed to be euphoric at all times. Revel in what you have, which is substantial.

ETA: I mean, seriously, think about the dead multitudes who never could have contemplated the joy of grilling on the back porch on land you own while sipping a 10 year old bourbon. We live in artificially cooled air. You can travel almost anywhere on earth for cheaper than anytime in history. Hell, I have already aged out of the draft and will never even experience the horror of real war. Life is objectively great. If postmodernism or politics or capitalism or whatever has you too down to enjoy it, there is always the option for early exit.

Sure..then I realize that I’m incredibly fortunate to have the job that I do...book a flight for my wife and I to some place we’ve always dreamt of visiting, come back recharged after a week or so and attack life with a renewed focus.

It's called depression, let us know when you figure out how to fix that.

It comes and goes for me. There are days when I question everything...and what is usually my favorite thing in the world doesn't even move the needle. Then are moments when I'm profoundly moved just by looking at the clouds, the sunset on the mountains.

Just roll with it. I'm sure there are ways to make the happiness and motivation more frequent. Maybe try some vitamins or a change in diet.

Could be depression...I’m on anti anxiety/depressants. I’ve spoken to the shrink within the last couple of years.

I don’t feel self destructive, or sad...just that I don’t care. I get a yearly salary regardless of how great or bad I am at my job. It’s like the movie Office Space.

Apathy would be a step up for me. I’m 50-50 whether or not to kill myself by the end of the year

On the plus side, if you’ve felt this way for 2 years or more you are beating the odds.
