You live in the best time ever to be born and are richer, healthier, and more educated than billions who died before you. You live in the most powerful nation the world has ever known. You have a family and a job, both of which you got to choose. It is a myth that you are supposed to be euphoric at all times. Revel in what you have, which is substantial.
ETA: I mean, seriously, think about the dead multitudes who never could have contemplated the joy of grilling on the back porch on land you own while sipping a 10 year old bourbon. We live in artificially cooled air. You can travel almost anywhere on earth for cheaper than anytime in history. Hell, I have already aged out of the draft and will never even experience the horror of real war. Life is objectively great. If postmodernism or politics or capitalism or whatever has you too down to enjoy it, there is always the option for early exit.
fricking awesome post.

Bettering oneself is never a bad thing. Working on your health isn't something done to meet other's expectations, it's something done because it universally makes people feel better.
On superficial levels it's futile.
Health wise, find something that's not routine and enjoy it.
Routines lead to apathy for prone individuals.

the problem is this life is easy and we're comfortable and humans, esp men, didn't evolve to be comfortable

True. I'm totally bored when things are easy and have to have a challenge or an outlet for creativity. I'm a horrible worker drone
I'll self destruct if I get bored or apathetic

Apathy is restlessness, it's a spiritual (not religious) condition. A person has got to emotionally connect to something whether it be art, music, nature etc. that feeds his emotional and spiritual side.

I can be on board with that. I definitely don’t feel connected to much of anything right now. I haven’t been drinking more or anything. That’s a plus.

Just part of getting old. Your meter doesn't go as high as it used to.

I turn 30 in two weeks and I feel like I can relate. For me I think a lot of it has to do with my continued abuse of opiates from the ages of 22-27. Going from doing whatever I wanted whenever I wanted to working 60 hours a week the last 4 years to pay a mortgage and save up for the future without even a drop of liquor has been difficult. My job sucks I don't like to bitch about it out loud. Idk if you can relate to any of that but it seems like it's common for people our age. Sober life is tough but I've noticed that exercise helps a lot. I'm looking for other hobbies.

Very true. Humans need challenges and creativity to thrive.
Our system is to make worker drones given enough to keep docile yet "they" are also striving to take all of your resources at the same time.
They keep enough new stuff dangled in front of us to keep us producing
The idea is to keep you anxious and insecure enough for the "good of society"

I don't disagree with any of that but who is they?

Generally the economic elite.
It's not a bad system but you've got to maintain the primitive drives and creative urges that come naturally and not get swallowed in a sea of consumerism.
