Great grand parents were 19 and 13
Wife’s grand parents were 17 and 11
Both couples married 50+ years until death

Whet was pretty commonplace not long ago, it's just part of the war on men.

I know things like this were somewhat common back in the day, but I cannot wrap my mind around marrying a child who hasn't even hit double digit years yet.
Just, why? And how? And...so many fricking questions but I don't know that I want answers to because it's fricking sick.

In almost 1940, I'm wondering the details of how that would've transpired.
Was it the girl was basically orphaned? Or maybe he had a little money and it would be a convenience for her family to get her out?..lol hell maybe kidnapped?

Proving once again that history CANNOT be viewed through a modern lens.

Marrying a 9 y.o. is weird.
I can understand 15 or so.
But, anything pre pubescent is weird AF no matter the time in history.

Even this modern notion that looking at someone who is 17 years 364 days old in a sexual manner makes you a pedophile doesn't make sense.

I have a story like this. I was at a bar when I was living in Fayetteville. I was in my mid 20s and saw a woman likely in her mid-30s looking really depressed. She said her grandmother just died two weeks ago and she was depressed about it. I told her that my grandmother also died earlier that year, so I understand it but at least they went down at a ripe old age. She told me that wasn’t the case and that her grandma died in her 50s. I’d been drinking so my response was “Now how in the hell is that possible?” She told me that her mom gave birth to her when she was 12 and that her grandmother gave birth to her mother when she was 13. My drunken response “Well that’s really fricked up.” This pisses her off where she screams that that was the norm back in their day, and then I smart off again “Yeah, it was the norm in the days of Jesus, but not any time recently in this fricking country.” She proceeds to dog cuss and I figure I better get the hell out of there before this hillbilly tries to kick my arse.

It was very common in past centuries for girls to marry much older men. This is because at that time the husband was seen as a provider and protector of his wife. Older men who already owned land and their own farm were in a far better position to provide for a family than an young man.
Also, at that time they viewed the stages of growth differently. Today we view the ages of pre-teens to 18-21 as a transition between childhood and adulthood. This is a rather modern concept from the 20th century. Before that once a child was old enough to work, they were no longer viewed as a child. This was especially true in poor, rural areas.

The vocabulary on 8 years olds these days is next level.
I'll give you a Rudy gif clap on this one, it's on an el Gaucho level !

My great great grandfather, in Johnson's Bayou, La., was 52 when he married my great great grandmother who was 15 at the time (in the 1860's). It was his second wife.
Between both wives he had 21 children. She was younger than all the children from his first marriage.
