For me it speaks more to their public relations or lack there of, Verizon at least appears to give a frick by doing what they've done.

Yikes. Going to be some high bills this month. I average 34gb/month but have unlimited.

but as some suggested to hold them liable for loss of life during a flooding event is a bit of a reach
Not saying that they'll win or are directly responsible, but you have to know people are going to sue.

Solid deal, and honestly I'd probably do it if I didn't have unlimited data.

And the judge will throw it out immediately.
Posted on 8/18/16 at 8:45 am to thegreatboudini
One would also think that a judge would toss out a suit of someone dumping coffee in their own lap.
Or a burglar injuring himself in your home.
One purchases a device and service with a reasonable expectation to call for help. If that person needed rescue services and sustained injuries because of negligence by ATT it's not going to be tossed immediately.
If any of the talk about the deferred maintenance on their infrastructure or replacement equipment being states away is true, they have a case.

You act like this is the first time a region has lost cell phone signal during a natural disaster.

That's the same message I got.

I think 2 things are what's driving all of the backlash. One, no other carrier had issues. And two, it took them so long to get it fixed and in some areas today it's still not fixed. This isn't a Katrina-like catastrophe where you had every utility wiped out for weeks. The most water anyone seen anywhere was under 10ft. Most of the flooding was 5ft and under. And this wasn't a tower issue. The switches they're talking about here are a really big deal to these carriers. They're very secretive about their locations and about how many they have, etc.

Yeah, this happens everywhere. Back in 2011 when the Tornadoes came through Alabama, no one I knew could make calls. Data was hit or miss, and texts were about the only way to communicate. Didn't matter which carrier you were on, as my sister had T-Mobile, we had Sprint, and my parents had Verizon. All the phones issued at work were AT&T. Same story from everyone I talked to about it. Texts may take a minute or two to go through, but even trying to call a landline from your cell wouldn't work. It lasted maybe 2-3 days.

I could care less about Verizon giving unlimited data when their cell coverage is absolutely terrible.
Long live AT&T

Same thing that happened to AT&T could have very easily happened to Verizon, plane and simple.

How long have you been working for AT&T?
Posted on 8/18/16 at 10:03 am to MightyYat
They knew they should have moved the switches. Have known for a long time. Decided not to do it. Paying for it now.

It bad enough to ask for something free but they seem to think it would be immoral of AT&T not to give it to them.
But if "they" actually do think it would be immoral of AT&T not to do it, they kind of have a point. At the VERY least, AT&T needs to credit everyone affected for the lack of service WITHOUT waiting for them to call in and ask for a credit. On top of that, any MORAL entity would go beyond that to make up for the additional distress caused by that lack of service. I know I would. Verizon did, and they didn't even cause the distress. You probably would, too. Why can't we hold corporations to the same standard of morality as we do each other?

He must be one of their inside sales reps.
ATT will never acknowledge this issue going forward.

I am talking to AT&T My last bill was $188 after taxes for the wife and I and two tablets. That same plan at verizon is $95 before taxes. I see a change in my future.

We were with Centennial WAY back when and then Verizon bought them out. We never even considered anyone else despite special offers and what not as the service where my husband works (and plays ie where he fishes) is second to none and we NEVER EVER have had issues.

If you have to pay a bill at the end of a cycle for service you didn't receive, there's no social "entitlement" issue here, just common sense. AT&T should do something. Their systems are sketchy when conditions are perfect, and a complete failure when in crisis.
I knew what carrier each one of my family had before i could even ask them, because of the failure to connect with them during this crisis.
If you stay with AT&T because you've "always been with them", or are too prideful to admit you picked the wrong carrier, you are an idiot.
