I was diagnosed with Hoshimoskins thyroiditis when I was 15 and have been taking Synthroid since then. Lately, shite has hit the fan and I don’t feel like the Synthroid is working. My blood work come back normal and the doctor wants to put me on anti-depressants. I have been hesitant for a number of reasons but I had a talk with someone close to me and they told me to talk it out.

Anybody else have this condition and go through depression? It really blows and sucks knowing I’m legitimately crazy. Granted it is a biological issue but still. I’m struggling in what to do.

Cliff notes: I’m crazy but not sure what to do to get it fixed.

Eat red meat. Burgers, steak, anything like that works. My wife has that pretty bad and those usually help her tremendously.

I suspect you are seeing an endocrinologist. If not, you need to see one.

Just because your numbers fall within the "normal" range does not mean its truly normal.

Very high incidence in our family with several ultimately developing thyroid cancer. Have you discussed switching to Armour thyroid vs synthroid? Armour contains some amount of T3 as well as T4. The body requires deiodinase to remove an iodine residue to convert T4 to T3. Selenium is necessary for this process to take place and is worth increasing your dietary intake.

True words. TSH of 3 on one person could feel horrible on the next. There are a ton of mitigating factors to consider.. screw anti depressants if you don’t abdolutely need them.

I had my thyroid radioactively removed 30 years ago due to hyperthyroidism. You need to watch and monitor your thyroid intake. Even though I have no natural thyroid, I developed Graves Disease which has caused optic nerve damage. They have had a tough time getting my thyroid dosage correct.

I actually lost the ability to see purple this year.

I’ve been doing some reading on the T-4 and T-3 and I feel like that is my problem. Heading to see my endo on Friday and hoping to get some relief from this.

I am 33 and worried about the long term issues this shite is causing. It does run in my family so that makes me worried for myself and my kids.

I was put on Armor Thyroid -- supposedly it's better than Synthroid but I can't remember the "why" that she told me. Also, my numbers weren't severely out of whack BUT based on what I was telling her she put me on it. She treats person/symptoms -- not numbers.

Have them check your free T3. You can have a normal TSH and still have low free T3. Would def discuss with your endocrinologist

Have you had your vitamin D, magnesium and B12 levels checked? I'm hypo and when these levels are low, all I want to do is sleep.

No, it looks blue. I should have added "purple know looks like blue."

So purple and gold is blue and gold.

You are not crazy, your chemicals are off balance and making you feel that way. Thyroid can do that. What are your thyroid levels? Even if they are in the normal range, they can still be low for you. Have you tried Armour Thyroid? A lot of people say that it works better.
