I like to pay for what I actually use instead of some tongue in cheek pencil pusher thinks I should pay..

It's psychological. Not like you are getting free energy.

I've been doing it for quite a few years. It makes it easy to know about what you're going to pay each month.

I'm just amazed everyone's electric bill is so cheap. I've always lived in old houses, and no matter the size, the bills are wacky high.
That's because a lot of the older type houses have lots of character, but little insulation and if original, drafty double hung/single pane windows.
I live in a house that's close to 100 yrs. old and the only insulation on the second floor is up in the attic. None of the walls upstairs are insulated and I have tons of large windows like described above.
The ground floor is very well insulated due to having to rip everything out after Katrina and totally rebuild. I can cool that area off with one 23K BTU window unit and heat it with 1 floor model gas heater with thermostat. Big difference in electric and gas usage.
But, the main living area is the 2nd floor with the ground floor being my man cave.

It is absolutely legit. Been doing it for 20 years. When I put in a new unit 5 years ago my bill dropped about $80 a month due to the new efficiency.

Sure - been doing levelized billing with Entergy for maybe a decade, at least as long as they established the program. Great for monthly budgeting purposes. They re-adjust the levelized billing amount upward yearly to compensate for underpayment of your actual yearly utility bill or adjust the monthly payment downward to compensate for overpayment of your actual annual utility bill, adjustments also made for utility rate adjustments. Pretty straightforward.

You'll be surprised how much money you'll save if you buy a new central ac unit.
our electric bill went down 40%, no lie.
Of course, do the math first. Would a $5000 new system be worth it to you in the long run?

Shows that I would pay 88/month. Is there a catch?
It depends on where you live and power company options available. If you live in a state that’s non regulated and decide to change providers, you will owe the current provider the difference before able to make the switch. They keep a running tab baw!

I did several years ago. I did it for a few years and then audited the previous years. They were hosing me pretty bad. I think they owed me several hundred dollars once everything was said and done. I didn’t pay a power bill for a while after settling that up.

I don't bc I like having more money in the winter time. Can't go wrong with levelized billing, just a preference. Feels nice to have extra spending money around Christmas time

Thanks for the suggestions everybody.

Been doing this for 4 years now.
I pay the exact same every single month.
Got tired of insanely high billing in the summer and little to nothing in the winter.
I get that in the winter, i barely turn the heat on but dang, there is no reason for excessively high bills in the summer

The benefit is that your bill does not fluctuate much throughout the year.
why is that a benefit though?
If anything its a negative because you aren't able to keep a close eye on electric usage.

For the 3rd time, for budgeting purposes. Making it a fixed cost vs a variable cost.

oh, so like for poor people and stuff who need to make sure they have enough money every month so their power doesn't get shut off?

I like my bill being about the same every month. I don't really care that much about the usage. I'm going to keep my house on 72 if it's $150 or $300 per month. But it's nice to know about what it's going to be.

Huh? Electric, gas, or water companies are only going to charge you for what you use.

Budget or leveled billing is absolutely going to be round up. At least a little if not a lot depending on your company. They sure as hell aren’t rounding down and losing money to help you out. Think about it that way.
Generally speaking there’s a nominal charge in rounding for budget billing.
