Or a razor town as the great Jason Isbell sings it.....

If you bolted, do you have any guilt for leaving?

I'm somewhat intrigued by some of the towns in eastern Ohio. Very beautiful slices of Americana that just can't sustain in a global economy where we are more focused on being white collar.

I know someone that lives in a small town south of Chicago and it's kinda neat. Insanely good schools. I can't help but think that it'll resurge once self-driving cars make 50 mile commutes easy.

Yup, 2200 when I left, 1800 now. Largely deaths and people leaving due to lack of jobs. There's lots of politics in that but that's for a different board. I'm in DFW now but I find that all the things I hate about big cities and try to find here are the things I grew up with and hope my kids can too.

The town I grew up in was dying, even though it was right along the interstate system. Several large employers had moved out, manufacturing jobs lost overseas.

Then 20 years ago, a couple of large warehouse systems moved in and it rebounded and has been growing ever since.

Was just thinking about this. Feels like everything blue collar continues to fade. Which really sucks because that is really the backbone/heartbeat of America. It’s nice to go places that are unique and not exactly like everywhere else and aren’t overwhelmed with millions of people and the stress that puts on a place.

3 years in Natchez when married to a Natchezian. Now it's just Rearview Town that I visit for the kids sports/school stuff and to pick them up at carpool every other Friday.

I grew up in a rural area, and now live in a city. I would say most towns/cities in the parish that I’m from are “dying”. Maurice is probably the only town/city that is growing in Vermilion Parish.

ETA: I don’t feel bad at all for leaving.

The film "Slingblade" provides a nice glance at life in a typical small-town in the South.

2000 here. Born and raised in a small town. Moved to a city with 250,000 and 2 years is all I wanted. I'm a mountain person and where I feel at home. Neighbor to my east has 300+acres. Neighbor to west has 140 acres. I can take a piss in daylight and nobody will see. Shooting bench in my backyard with 200 yard range. Money is low on my priority. As long as I dont live week to week and have a decent nest egg I'm content. I love Wyoming and hope to call it home within 5 years

I used to live in one of the small towns in metropolitan Bogalusa. I have no guilt leaving that area.

I have and I’d move back in a heartbeat, if you could make a halfway decent living there. No guilt for leaving though, had to get a job.
