I hope this is a temporary set up
for the amount of money you spent on that chandelier and how your place looks, you should spend the money to have some wire installed so it can be installed overhead
NVM so you're edit

It's weird that someone would build such a large expanse with no overhead wiring anyhere.

Now that's an ugly light fixture.. The pulley is the highlife ...

Is that a plug-in accent lamp you are using as a chandelier?

if you don't plan on moving it up and down, do what I suggested earlier in the thread..
wire the cable to a stationary position on the small pulley, then you can let off the slack and the pulleys will hang straight.

I would have went with a light colored "vintage" wire and sprayed painted the pulleys white
the would have meant the eyes are immediately drawn to the chandelier and not the wire/pulleys

Is that the look you were going for?

This is the wire:
the pulleys are natural steel. Small pulley has some black paint on it. I just removed the rust.

Yes, you need a fixed support on the pulley. right now you have a pivot point

you aren't understanding me?
make the wire going from the chandelier to the small cable non movable (wrap it around the pulley and then figure out a way to stop the action of the light moving up or down)
once the light is stationary, you can set the amount of slack to the larger pulley and then run the remaining wire to the cleat.

right
I just would have made everything else lighter so that it kinda blended with the background so that the chandelier stood out more and was what caught the attention of the eye

I like the fixture and can appreciate the pulley concept. The hooks take away from the whole look. Also, it appears to be the only rustic note in the two rooms which seems odd. Maybe it isn't, as we are only getting a small picture.

quote:that's one solid cable. Maybe I could add a thin steel cable that goes from the light to the hook which takes all the weight.
