Did they determine if the engineering firm cut corners or fricked up their math?

It was some company that had minority-owned contract preference, so the media probably swept it under the rug.

wasn't it minority women engineering firm contracted to satisfy diversity requirements and have a nice purty press release to go afterward?

in fact, didn't the press release precede the failure?

That was the internet rumor. No idea if it’s true. But it’s probably true.

Yes. The bridge was praised as being a huge step for women in engineering and a first of it's kind project.

ETA: I just did some google searching and it apparently is a lie. I guess the construction professional that told me about it was fooled too.

I never saw that confirmed, but I did see the quote where the engineers praised being an all-women lead team because they could bring the "artistic touch" to engineering.

If any of that is true, just

Diversity is more important than competency. More important than physics and engineering.

Diversity is all.

I feel guilty because it was such an interesting thread, esp when the engineers came out and started pointing out/explaining stuff. Such a tragedy though.

My office is 2 miles away from the failed bridge. As you can imagine it dominated the news here for days. I never heard anything about praising female engineers or it being the first of its kind. As a matter of fact, according to the news, over 600 bridges have been constructed in that manner in the US.

yes, it was clearly explained the women fricked up by moving the supports where they shouldnt be instead of doing it as described in the plans.

have a watch of the video explaining it LINK

We stayed on the 38th floor of this tower (The Aqua Tower) when we visited Chicago. Upon taking the architectural boat tour one morning we found out it was designed by an "all women team" . Nice place to stay....but I really didnt need to know that.

Nope. Construction firm is owned by 5 brothers.
