Any teachers here? Question for you.

I've told my daughter she needs to handle this and I've made suggestions as to ways that she can approach it BUT I'm curious for thoughts on this.
Daughter is an A student; made an F on a quiz; has a C in the class. Quiz in question has not been returned to students (she's asked him about it 4 times now) and basically I'm assuming the quizzes are lost; quiz was given the first week in January.
Her concern is that he's KNOWN for making mistakes in grading and she wants 1) to know what she missed and 2) she wants to verify the grade. She's not "fine" if it's an F but she'll feel better "accepting" it if she can see that indeed she didn't do well and that no errors were made in grading. (On another assignment for one student, the graded paper was an F but was actually an A .. a shite ton of errors were made in grading)
Do your schools have policies on this? My kids have all said that graded items have always been handed back for student review; I'm assuming that's the norm. What would you do if you had misplaced a quiz/test before the kids were able to review it?

Tell him to produce the test or throw it out. If not, tell him you'll see him in The People's Court.

Grow a pair and ask the teacher for a copy of the test. If he does not have it or it is loss either accept the grade and move on or ask for a redo. Just do not elevate the issue to a court case as most parents do.
I have lost test before and unless someone questions a grade it stands. If there is a question, I am happy to allow any of the students a do over. I never change a grade unless the student shows me a blatant mistake or does some additional work. Grades are subjective, they are not objective, teach your daughter to deal with that fact.

But only before the grades come it right? Because after the grades come out:

I find it odd that the teacher can't cough up the quiz and let the students know how they did. How the hell do you learn if you don't know your mistakes. Of course, he may also be looking to have one of those teacher/student relationships....

The test was never handed back to her? I'd raise some hell.

No, but I was taught by a few.

Don't call him out. Do this. Go to him and tell him that you want her test and that if somehow he can't come up with it, you would take a blank copy so you can study off of that one. That way you haven't made him look like a dick or a moron. You never want to come across that way.

I'd email the teacher myself and ask for a copy of the test. If I don't get an answer send another and cc the principal

She did ... and he sent it home for me to actually see as well. She "took" the quiz again in hopes of him perhaps keeping that one. She asked if the grade would stand as is even if she couldn't see the test and he said "what do you mean?". She didn't want to come out and say "I want to check your grading" but I told her she should have mentioned it. lol
He's an older gentleman retired from the public system who came back to the Catholic system (he taught here many years ago).
I suggested that she either talk to the counselor or assistant principal (in charge of teachers and curriculum) to see what options there are if any.

Burn that mother fricker down. Not literally, but raise some hell in there.

Your daughter could be lying about him not handing it back

Isn't your youngest son a senior in HS? That would put this daughter in college right?

well was it graded correctly?

Several other parents have said the same thing .. that they've questioned their kids and kids haven't seen it. Even those who did well say that they haven't seen the quiz.
I'm almost sure he lost them.

He sent home a BLANK copy of the quiz ... he evidently can't find the actual set of quizzes that they actually took!
