A buddy in college outran a sheriff’s deputy who had to u-turn and pass a couple of big rigs to catch up to us, so he had a decent headstart.

But I still thought he was going to kill everybody in the car with his driving.

Early Fall 1968, West Monroe, LA, at Smith Cemetery off New Natchitoches Rd, six 15 year old guys guys in my mom's 1963 Impala with no a/c, drinking beer. It's dark, and as we were leaving, we see the state trooper on the side of the driveway, watching traffic on the road. quick thinkers we were, the right front guy, Richard, leaned down, and the left rear guy did too. so, it looks like a double date, with all the windows wide open. i pulled up to the stop sign, which placed us about 5 feet from the cop's open window. Just about then, 6'4" Richard sits up and says, loudly, "are we past him?"

we turned right, then left on well road, and turned off the lights. got on I-20 and drove full throttle in the dark until we got to Thomas Rd. downshifting to get off, because brake lights would give us away. as we started up the overpass, we saw the cop roaring past with lights flashing.

My only run from the cops was successful. Fred was in the car, and probably the instigator and source of beer. He's dead. I still see Richard on facebook. He's alive but down to one leg. I'm not sure who the others were. if there are others from WMHS Class of 71 who remember it, i guess they were there. good times!!!

Lowkey it's not safe to run from cops in Arkansas. Troopers have way to much wiggle room to flip your car on the interstate with no repercussions.

shite they pitted a woman having a medical emergercy trying to get to the hospital

Two stories from my 80s childhood-

First, riding with a teammate to a baseball game in his brand new ‘86 Thunderbird. Cop steps out in the road to stop him for speeding; Joey bangs a quick right a block short of him and we disappear.

Second, as a HS senior, it was tradition to roll the school. We were finishing a masterful job when the cops show. We all scatter on foot and I (MUCH skinnier then than now) hide under a car in a driveway around the corner from school. Cops ride by, arrest 2 girls (no pics) who’d parked on the road, and then turns the spotlight on looking for others. Thank God I was wearing black from head to toe. Never saw me. I watch him round the corner, wait 5 more minutes (at least), then get up and head over to a classmate’s house on that street.

In High School the school resource officer clocked me one night going 131 mph past the High School on my way home from somewhere. When I got home he had already called the house and told my mom he clocked me at 131 and didn't even bother pulling out to chase me. I tried to lie and say it wasn't me etc. Finally just said screw it and admitted it. Had to go talk to him the next morning etc he threatened to take away my parking permit etc. I never saw him but he told me he was backed into the teacher parking lot shooting radar that night.

back when I was 18, I managed to evade them by hiding in a doorway with two cases of beer while they were driving by. I didn't outrun them on foot for sure, they were in the car and I cut through the park in Auburn and ducked into a offset doorway until they left.

Yep on foot being a dumb arse teenager two times.

Once I was in a car with my brother in the front passenger side his friend and I in the back and A “ supplier “ driving.

Middle of the night on this country rd. Two cops get behind us and light us. (The supplier was like a know sorry arse the kind always getting in trouble).

As we start to pull over, my brother takes a knife to the drivers neck and tells him if he tells them our names, he’s going to find him and kill him and then tells us to get out and run.

We all three take off running through a field cops chasing us . We lose them. Then spend hours walking the woods beside the highway to get home.

The other time was when a fat cop had us stopped while walking, and told us if we run, he’d catch us. Well he didn’t.

During Covid lockdown on a cool Sunday morning I thought I would take the ZL1 on a short drive. It was like the apocalypse had happened…not a car on the road. Headed I59N and a State Trooper came out of nowhere. I was doing a little over 100mph so I figured Id better run.

1. 10mph over , cop made a U turn , I ducked into a neighborhood, zig zagged, parked in a random driveway for 20 mins.

2. Doing 120 on the interstate at night. Road was busy. Saw headlights duck into the median to come get me. So many cars , cop couldn’t pull out, went over an overpass, never saw him.

3. 15mph over interstate. Cop couldn’t pull out. Too many cars. Exited. Ducked into a gas station. Fueled up. Got back on the road. Same cop. Pulled out. Followed me for 1/2 mile. Never lit me up . At the time I drove a very non-scripted white truck. My guess is he probably didn’t know if that was the same truck he saw or not.
