The hot water thing wasn't a joke. It basically removes the itch for you for a period of time. It's damn near orgasmic I'm not exaggerating.
Run it under hot water, as hot as you can stand until the euphoric feeling goes away. Scrub with Dawn after to dry it out. Pat it dry, don't rub.

Best thing to do would be to get a shot.
However, if you don't want to go that route, try this stuff
I'm really allergic to poison ivy and I've found this stuff to be by far the most effective thing over the counter. It's like $40 a tube but it works.

keep your yard in check and you wont get poison ivy. that's the best remedy.

if you've got the allergy bad enough, you're going to get it, you can get it from windborne spores, if some is burning it you can get it from the smoke, is you inhale that smoke...

the ONLY thing works for me is that steroid shot from the doctor. when i get in it, i get it asap. all the over the counter meds do absolutely nothing.

I can verify that TecNu stuff works wonders. Got poison ivy on Thursday, used that stuff on Saturday and the poison ivy is gone today. It’s expensive tho at $15.

It doesn’t actually spread, you just have some spots showing up later than others. Cortizone shot and steroid taper about the best you can do

Also, learn what the plant looks like if you don’t know for sure. So many people mistake the peppervine plant for poison ivy

Ivarest works pretty good.
Technu is only good if you know that you were in poison ivy and it removes the urushiol oil.
And I can second the statement around scalding hot water feeling euphoric. It is amazing and the only benefit from getting poison ivy. It really is amazing.

Blow dryer ftw! I swear it works. Just make sure not to burn yourself. Almost instantaneous relief!

Forget what it's called, but there's some coarse cream they sell at the drug store you rub on the rash before showering that take the itch away. It's more orgasmic than hot water.

hot shower and a wire brush or Brillo pad...

If it becomes unbearable, take a steaming hot bath.
This blocks the nerves for some time. Then topical creams after.

I use rubbing alcohol a few times a day.

Scalding hot water works for me
And it stops the itching for 15-20 minutes.
ETA: BoogaBear beat me to it.

Go to urgent care. Get a shot and some meds
Or, you could scratch the frick out of it, and pour alcohol on it a few times a day. Seems to work almost as good

I've gotten to the point that I shower and coat myself in Dawn dish soap. It removes the oil from your skin if you come in contact with Poison Ivy. If I do get it then I have to get a cortizon shot.

you have to scrub the affected area to get rid of the sap. just washing it wont do it!
after you have all of the poison ivy oil removed, that Nu Tech stuff works well
