Just got some lab work that shows everything in the normal range except "neutrophils Abs" (8.4x10E3/uL - HIGH) and "lymphocytes Abs" (1.0x10E3/uL - LOW). Any idea what that could mean? He keeps getting colds, fevers, etc and we finally brought him to an allergist to see if it's seasonal allergies or perhaps something worse.

Waiting on the doc to call us to discuss but they just posted his panels on MyChart. I immediately thought I'd just ask the OTMD's.

Any medical ideas on what could be wrong?

Also in B4 "probably AIDS" and any other smarmy responses. Also he never got any covid vax but is up to date on everything else.

Well it's not like that's all we're doing. Like I said, I'm waiting for the doctor to call but I couldn't resist asking here. I know for a fact there's a shitload of pediatricians and pediatric surgeons and nurses that post here.

You'd have better luck on Political Talk. All the doctors on the site hang out over there to talk about how shots aren't vaccines and horse-paste will save you from the flu.

Doesn’t really mean anything specific.

Neutrophils and lymphocytes are simply cells which fight infections.

Really basic view is neutrophils are for bacteria and lymphocytes are for viruses. Very basic though. REALLY basic.

Your kid is fighting something off.

There are immunologic issues that result in problems with repeat infections, but it is hard to say at that age and this time of year.

Your kid is 5 and around other 5 year olds.

He will probably keep getting infections, especially this time of year.

Ah. Well he did just get the flu but that was about 2 weeks ago. It's just frustrating that after a round of antibiotics and a week finally being fever-free, it's back to the doctor again.

A friend of ours mentioned something called neutropenia or being neutropenic but it kinda sounds like bunk science to me. Is that something you have ever heard of?
