Is your 5 year old in kindergarten or still at daycare?

I will be honest with you, the vast majority of the time, antibiotics aren’t needed.

And they destroy all the good bacteria in your gut which in turn makes your body work harder to fight off infection in the future

He was in mother's day out from about 2-3yo before everything shut down.
So he just wasn’t exposed to the same shite every other kid was during the last 2 years.

My levels are like that every single physical lab work. I’ve had allergy and sinus infections yearly since teenage years. Nothing serious. Hopefully, it’s the same for your child. Prayers for your son.

Has he complained about his mouth or throat hurting. Is he eating? Because my son was having similar symptoms a while back and he ended up having a severe infection on his tonsils. A week in the hospital and heavy antibiotics cleared it up.

He in school or day care?

Not unusual the first 3 months to stay sick.

Others have said it already. Viral infections are the most common reason for kids that age getting sick (runny nose, cough, low grade fevers). Antibiotics are way overprescribed, as are steroids (only a handful of real indications for steroids). The neutrophils could suggest a bacterial infection but really, it means your kid’s immune system is there and working. I also think that labs are way over-ordered and with them being released to mychart before the docs have a chance to review it means a ton of worried parents.

I think your baby is just fine.

Well he did just get the flu but that was about 2 weeks ago. It's just frustrating that after a round of antibiotics and a week finally being fever-free, it's back to the doctor again.

Why was he on antibiotics for the flu? Flu is a virus. Consider a new doctor.

5 year old is 5, they basically still lick the floor at this age. Little people have to build up immunities. They get sick.

Many clinics and especially urgent care centers prescribe “something” because parents believe they have to have something.

If they don’t get a prescription, the doctor didn’t do anything and they’ll search for a new one.

It is a horrible aspect of pediatric medicine.

I think it’s allergies and possibly a little virus. Just treat the symptoms. If he gets a fever, 100.4 or higher alternate Tylenol and Advil. Strip his clothes down and no blankets. He will be fine. He already got over the flu. That’s one less hurdle. It’s been a rough flu season so far. You may go see an ENT like others suggested. Hope he gets better soon!

If they go to daycare, they get most of them before they’re 2. If they don’t, they get them in preschool. And then the year of isolation sort of fricked that up a bit, too.
