i have no plans to do so myself. i don't care if some dago engineers say its safe now, my fat arse would go clomping up to the top and that would be the moment it collapses.

thats a big time "NOPE" from me.

I went in 1996 and there was hurricane fence around it and nobody could go into that building

I was definitely freaking out a bit during the climb up / down. I'm afraid of heights which didn't help the situation.

It was constructed in 1173... and started leaning during that time... it's still up..

so your position is because it was leaning 1 degree in 1200 and 5.5 degrees today its still up so why worry?

So let’s start with the truth: yes, you can go inside the Tower of Pisa, but what awaits you is not at all what people expect. There’s no hidden museum, no medieval rooms. What makes the climb unforgettable is how it feels, not what you see.

quote:

When you finally step inside the monument that inspired your whole detour to Pisa, the surprise is immediate. There are no chambers, no exhibits, no architectural secrets waiting behind doors — because there are no doors.

Inside, the Tower is a perfectly empty cylinder, wrapped by a narrow spiral staircase that climbs along the inner wall. And it’s the Tower’s famous tilt that transforms this simplicity into something extraordinary.

As you walk, your body instinctively leans into the slope. Your balance adjusts. The steps — worn more on one side by centuries of visitors — guide you upwards in a rhythm that feels ancient and slightly surreal. Occasional windows open onto Pisa at beautifully strange angles. It’s minimal, unexpected, and strangely intimate.

quote:

It was built to house bells at the top. There was never meant to be any elaborate structure on the inside. This center part has always been open. Those walls are 8ft thick and the narrow staircase to the top winds through it.

I have done it. While going up it's a weird feeling & I can't describe it, like an illusion. Have you ever seen a car with a bent frame driving straight down the road but the front of the car is facing 11 o'clock? I was going up but felt like I was sideways at the same time.
