Most of the deer hunters on here have never hunted. Sitting in a deer stand 30 yards from your corn feeder and wildlife camera isn’t hunting - it’s aggressive waiting.

I sit in the stand looking at 40 deer deciding which one I'm willing to pay for

I never hunted and really only fished for brim & crappie in a stocked pond a few times. I like camping & backpacking so I definitely enjoy the outdoors. Just never got the hunting/fishing bug I guess. Nothing against hunters.

My dad would occasionally go deer hunting though I'm pretty sure he just liked sitting in the woods in relative silence. I don't think he killed a thing since I was born.

I can buy that. It's pretty difficult to just decide one day to start hunting without a friend/family member that hunts to give you some tips and show you the ropes.

, yeah, exactly.

I'm the opposite. I've never been fishing. But I enjoy hunting.

I've always enjoyed the outdoors - camping, hiking and hunting. I also enjoy guns (collecting and shooting) and plan to buy a few more in the coming years.

I don't really come off as someone who would be into those things because I'm not a redneck and I dress well. I can enjoy things without making it a defining aspect of my lifestyle.

I gave it a go when I was young but it just wasn't for me. Freezing my balls off while keeping both quiet and still never appealed to me.
Yeah b/c people hunt to freeze their balls off and be still.

Sounds like you got adhd and got your gear from WallyWorld.

Me. I want to start bow hunting though. Get in touch with that prehistoric DNA.

Bow hunting since age 10.

Just got a new bow.
Serious crossbow.

And targets and hay bales.

Don't have any licenses right now.

Funny bow hunting story.
Younger brother age 10, got a squirrel. Turned out to be very pregnant. The gory accidental delivery was followed by accidentally cooking the young squirrel in vain attempt at incubator.
He stopped hunting.

Born and raised Missourian with an Eagle Scout dad and an Order of the Light brother who love to camp and hunt. It never interested me. My brother bow hunts now. My dad is 70 and still gets out in the cold duck blind occasionally.

Unlike you, though, I have been hunting. I was a kid and was bored stiff. Maybe I would like it now that I'm grown, but I doubt it.

Why do some have no problem ripping a living fish out of the water to die an awful death in an ice chest, but would never shoot a deer with a rifle?

Probably an emotional detachment from not seeing it take its last breath. You see a spec for a solid 2 seconds before it is out the water in an ice chest. The deer walks out you shoot and see it fall. I am not speaking for myself since I do both, but they watch that process and it is more “real” than not seeing it.

Oh and fish don’t make noise and show no emotion.

Again not speaking for myself, but to each their own.

My uncles and cousins are really passionate about duck hunting; I've never been (late 20's). My brother went with them for the first time during college and absolutely loved it.

Would it be shitty going for the first time as an adult? Would I be a drag on the other guys?

ETA: should probably mention I'm literate with firearms.

Neither do deer if you shoot them right.

Growing up as a kid it never bothered me that some of my friends didn't hunt or fish. If everyone liked doing the same thing the woods would have been to crowded. You would have to wait in line to launch your boat or best fishing spot would be over crowded. To all the people who like things that I don't

Born and raised in south Louisiana, fished all my life and love it. I never had an interest in hunting even though my dad and brothers duck hunted religiously. As a young boy I remember feeling bad for the ducks when my dad was cleaning them so I never wanted to shoot one. I had no problem throwing a flapping trout into his icy grave in the igloo however. And no way would I ever shoot a deer or other animal.

I guess I'm a pussy.

I don't hunt in any capacity but I am also not a fan of most game. I understand the need for hunting and am fine with those who choose to do it, I just don't want the spoils so I don't do it.

I do not care for the taste of most wild game. If venison was as delicious as most hunters claim, there would be a commercial market for it. Also, I do not care to have the walls of my house adorned with the heads of dead animals. One hunting aspect I did enjoy was quail hunting. Watching the dog work, the skill involved in hitting a small, fast moving bird, made it very fun. The added aspect of the taste of quail is very good and is on the menu in a lot of fine dining restaurants.

BTW, I was raised hunting. My immediate family members still hunt a lot. They rarely eat the deer they kill. I have heard the feral hogs are tasty and killing them is a service. They are extremely destructive and quickly reproduce.

I can understand not wanting to hunt for some of y'all. Heck, after hunting deer over 50 years, I gave it up. Many a years I would take 3-4 deer to help feed my family. My son, he really didn't care to deer hunt, but jump at every chance to duck hunt. My daughter, she is a bow hunter for deer and loves duck hunting. I'm not in the best of health, so I don't hunt to often or even fish. When one looses the thrill of hunting, it is time to quite.
