It doesn’t have to be. You can hunt public land for the price of a gun and a license.

Quit hunting at age 40 after killing three deer for the year. It just wasn't satisfying any more. I watched a spike walk about 60 paces in front of me from a deer stand. Let it go by, smoked a cigarette, got down, walked out and haven't been back.

Now, if I want to shoot, I go to the range, or use my camera. Literally, more satisfying taking a photo of a trophy deer than ending its life. If I needed to hunt for the food, I'd have no trouble ending its life. Doing it for sport. Nah. Done with that.

I've never hunted in my life.

Very thankful for those who do and are nice enough to share some of their bounty with me occasionally.

Had the privilege of growing up on a golf course and tennis court. Hunting has never appealed to me.

You can. It's not the easiest thing to just start doing, but yeah, you can do that.

I guess I'm arguing about which is easier to do if you've never done either. Buying and operating a Zebco 404 on an UglyStick isn't difficult if you can drive to water. Picking up a gun and operating it with any proficiency takes practice, and that practice takes ammo, and a range or plenty of space, etc.

Born and raised in south Louisiana, fished all my life and love it. I never had an interest in hunting even though my dad and brothers duck hunted religiously. As a young boy I remember feeling bad for the ducks when my dad was cleaning them so I never wanted to shoot one. I had no problem throwing a flapping trout into his icy grave in the igloo however. And no way would I ever shoot a deer or other animal.

I'm from North LA. I never enjoyed deer hunted as a kid, because I honestly just thought it was boring af. I am working on getting back into it for bonding with my dad. He's just so sober when he goes. Would love for him to prefer duck hunting

I’m the opposite. I used to duck hunt all the time. But it’s a lot of fricking work for little payoff. Especially in south LA when all you shoot is teal and grey ducks

Hunting has never appealed to me.

I don't fish much, but I'd rather be on water than in woods. Actually, just being on water and not necessarily fishing is pretty damn relaxing to me.

I don't know why people frown on teal, the are the best eating and most challenging to shoot.

That said I'd rather come home with two specs than six ducks every day

Froze my butt off in the woods quite a few times, but never even seen a deer to shoot at much less killed one. Killed many squirrels and robins (don’t care) as a kid, and fished a ton, but that’s pretty much the extent of me as a great white hunter. My dad was a sports watching couch potato, and so I wasn’t raised in that environment, but I admire, and am a little envious of those who were.

Most of the deer hunters on here have never hunted. Sitting in a deer stand 30 yards from your corn feeder and wildlife camera isn’t hunting - it’s aggressive waiting.

I only foxhunt now. So you get up on cold and early mornings to ride a horse.

As far as business and going with vendors ? I’d fire anybody’s arse who went with a vendor anywhere. I’ve been running companies for 30 years and a cheap lunch is the most tolerated. It’s bad business. I’m amazed at what some companies put up with concerning their employees. I guarantee its COSTING your company money if your employees are being entertained

Would be more fun if you got to shoot some of the more prestigious birds occasionally and not fricking coot

I've hunted, but it's cold and boring, so frick it. Plus, I've shot all of the great trophy ducks, so I really have no goals anymore.

And hunting doesn't have skimpy bikini women. I don't care how sassy and sporty the hunting chicks are. Their titties are covered in thermal underwear and flannel.

I can buy that. It's pretty difficult to just decide one day to start hunting without a friend/family member that hunts to give you some tips and show you the ropes.
