Got it, thank you. I've got my ancestry traced back to Sicily so hopefully it makes her job a little easier!

I find this to be awesome - Italy and Portugal will grant you citizenship if you can prove your ancestors came from there

I'm a northern barbarian with roots from Denmark, England and Scotland. I don't think I have any opportunities for something like this either.

Of course there is…it will cost you about $49. Just pick up one of the commonly available DNA kits and in about a month, it will tell you exactly what your ethnic background is.

Imagine the pandemonium that ensued when I told my “100% Sicilian” grandmother that she was actually 1% North African Jew!

My brother did the family history research that both my grandparents come from Italy: Jure Sanguinis. So when I retire in 4 years, I can achieve citizenship and move there. I think I still have to pass a test and my Italian needs work. I did the Consulate online and I need a TON of paperwork: birth & death certificates and naturalization papers of all my ancestors that came here. I'll have to hire some agency to find all that. Then I need to establish residence and apply. Hopefully I'll have all my stuff together by then. Ciao ragazzi

Thanks for your view of things. I'm on the waitlist for help from the Italian American cultural center. They make things alot easier for people looking for dual citizenship since they do it every day.

How is anyone surprised? If there is Italian involved, there will be African involved, since, for one thing, there are more Roman artifacts in Libya than there are almost anywhere else.

But, being a troll, it'd probably be easier to get EU/Italian citizenship as an illegal than it would be to try to claim it through official channels.

Part of the UK program, have to prove Grandparents born in UK, and some other criteria.
Hmmm…maternal grandfather was Scottish and maternal grandmother was British (maiden name Beauchamp).

Wouldn’t want to obtain citizenship. The UK is a horrendous totalitarian security state.

I think as time goes on many enterprising European countries are going to offer Americans citizenship provided they bring their wealth with them and can support themselves. It would be very smart for the economies of these countries and considering where this country is headed I don’t think it would be a bad idea to have an exit plan. I have no desire to hang around for our impending Rhodesia like future. Its coming.

This is the same Italian government that uses Google satellite information to reassess property for taxation along with flying drones in and around properties to assess taxes.

“We see you added a swimming pool and storage building. That’s $10k more tax due today.”

Am I right that you could also qualify for a credit card issued by a European bank? That would make travel to a place like Cuba much simpler as European bank credit cards can be used there but not US issued cards.
