I used to struggle with leaving the table when I started playing but now when I go I just take my id and however much cash I want to lose. Pretty much broke me of that habit.

Makes me wonder how casinos sty in business

FWIW I do know 3 people that gamble for a living. Two on poker so they aren't battling the house and one on Baccarat which has a very low house edge. The baccarat person spent years studying and developing a strategy. Apparently it's more about money management over the long run vs betting.

I got some advice from my dad about gambling once: "If you can afford to flush it down the toilet, you can afford to gamble it"

Used to be when I lived in Shreveport. Got Clark griswold'd at the blackjack table one night at Samstown for around 10k (I was very drunk) and haven't been since. That was about 8 years ago

Most of the degenerate gamblers are on the msb and the rant.

I’m very competitive and have been to the casinos a few times. Luckily I live far away. I can easily see how it can become a problem.

Not saying I am always ahead. Everyone knows that isn't possible.

This is what I do. First, I never bring more than I am willing to lose (that hasn't always been my rule, there were times when I was younger and would go to the casino with friends, lose and not wanting to just watch, pull out more money and start playing), but now I don't bring more than what I am willing to lose.

Generally, if I end up being up half of what I started with I will cash out. So if I start off at the blackjack table with $200, once I am up $100 I will stop playing. . Or I will only continue playing with what I won and if I lose that then I break even.

But betting college football is my favorite. Over a 6 year period I am at 53%. One year I finished 61%, but the next two years I finished below 50%. And I only track what I do in college football games. Once CFB is over I will bet a few NFL games, but if I included those, I am sure it would be lower than 53%.

So I am not at all saying that I have won a lot more than I lost or claim that I am always ahead. But most people who gamble a lot, you never hear a story about a time they lost.. Some people will tell you they won x amount, but don't mention that they were already down a good bit, hit that amount and kept playing until they lost it all.

I am a gambler, but I am not a compulsive gambler. Most of the time I quiet when I am ahead.. There are times when I will get greedy and try to win more. Also, I have a limit to lose. When I lose, I don't keep going to try to recover my losses. It's something I enjoy doing and realize I am not going to win every time. And I like to play poker & sports betting because I can use information to decide what I want to do (instead of putting money in a slot machine, hitting an button with no thought process involved). I also like to play blackjack and craps. Craps is just a fun game to play IMO.. But I have seen compulsive gamblers and they are not doing it because they enjoy it.

I've seen compulsive gambling & I am not even close.

As soon as you get paid you go to the poker machine play until it's all gone then going steal checks from your parents, going cash them at a grocery store only to go continue gamblings is compulsive. A compulsive gambler is someone who doesn't care if they win because that's only more for them to continue gambling.
