What's stopping someone from shipping this here on the DL, then slapping some after market parts on it to make it look different?
Will insurance not insure it or something?
You can import it. But still need a vin to register and insure it.
A lot of people with ranches/homesteads have been importing things like this lately.

I remember when pickup trucks were a cheap mode of transportation for folks that didn't or couldn't pay a
lot for a car.
lot for a car.

The more I see and read about this thing the more pissed I get we can’t get it. Just a cheap, reliable, functional truck that our overlords have deemed we can’t get “for our safety”. (Yes I know Toyota could bring it here but our regulations would make it not worth it).

I had the US version of this truck in the 1980s.
It was a ford ranger with a straight 4 and a manual transmission. Paid around $7k out the door.

Y’all know it isn’t just about safety. That’s one part of it.
American auto dealers have discovered that we have people in this country who will pay $100,000 for a pickup truck. You think they give a shite about marketing a truck at 1/10 that price?

That’s for a truck that doesn’t even have map pockets in the doors.
Where in the hell am I supposed to keep my maps?

People have proven they are willing to pay $120,000 for a pickup truck, because it can be financed for 15 years, making Ford even more money on the truck. It's basically an annuity for them.
The industry has no desire to offer cheap options in America. They'd be cutting their own nuts off.

No one buys cheap trucks anyway.
If you price it under 5K, maybe, but everyone saying they would buy this truck are the same ones saying they would buy a manual or a Ranger if they brought it back.
Then it doesn't happen.

That’s cheaper than a side by side.
Great farm vehicle, especially one to put a 9 dollar an hour farm hand in that’s gonna destroy it anyways

Thats a good way to end up in the back room getting strip searched.

Correct.

You basically have to VIN-switch it with a clapped-out old Tacoma. That would get it past the registration office (even though that would require two felonies), but then you run into trouble with the insurance company.
I wouldn’t buy this for daily highway use anyways. I’d buy them for farm use only so no need to register it

They could avoid that if they sold them at off road dealerships as a type of SxS with the understanding it can’t be registered. Farmers, ranchers, hunters would buy them

As long as you want it for an off-road / camp or farm truck you can, but you can't drive it on the road. There are dealers in Texas import the Suzuki Jimny to trick the out and sell them for double the MSRP.
I would love one of these for the camp and it is cheaper than a SXS.
