Moved from BR to Texas and never looked back.

I’d imagine the feeling of having to move back to La would be similar to the feeling of going to a county prison for a crime you didn’t commit.

I prefer Metry. It’s like living in New Orleans except instead of murder and car break-ins you get electricity, running water, and trash pickup.

Metairie is the only thing left reminiscent of the old N.O.
It's still a traffic clusterpuck though.

I swear the majority of you don’t leave the French quarter when you come to New Orleans.

I went to LSU for one year and hated it. I think I’d be on suicide watch if I had to live in BR proper.

Yes, my hometown New Orleans is a shithole, but at least we have some authenticity. BR always felt like some soulless country club atmosphere to me.

Comparing the WM can you roll to the road each week to the WM dumpster bin behind a restaurant.

Lived in BR from 2007 to 2016, then Lake Charles from 2016 to 2019. Have been in New Orleans since 2019 and someone would have to pay me handsomely to even consider moving back to BR.

The biggest draw of New Orleans is that it's the only city in the state that "lives" like a city. By that I mean you can live there and you don't have to jump in a car and drive 15 minutes to go anywhere. You can just walk out of your front door and go to any number of places (restaurants, grocery stores, parks, bars, etc...).

Sure, there may be small areas of other cities that you can do that in a limited fashion, but a large part of New Orleans is walkable.

If you don't care about that, then New Orleans probably isn't for you.

Lived in both cities for a good bit. Still spend a lot of time in NO and BR cuz of work, family and friends. NO is really getting better every time I visit. Starting to feel like NO 20 years ago. BR seems to be getting worse every time I visit. Basically, I go to New Orleans because I want to, I go to BR because I have to. If LSU wasn't in BR I'm not sure I would ever go back.

I live in the Sherwood/Coursey area of BR and it smells like arse and weed

Depending on which way the wind is blowing, there are some really awful BR smells - which I’m guessing is Exxon

oh, then you are not actually leaving your BR home

Yes, New Orleans is a shithole but let’s not act like Baton Rouge is some bastion of high class civility

Other than LSU Football, Baton Rouge is pretty lame. Calling it even vanilla would be an exaggeration.

Absolutely tons more to do in New Orleans. Music, food, arts, entertainment, festivals game, its rich history. Crime is trending downward bigly in NOLA. So far In 2025, Baton Rouge has a higher murder rate.

Despite what the NOLA haters here would want you to believe, NOLA is trending upward and BRLA downward.

This is my mentality. My family is from NOLA but I grew up in BR while still spending significant time in NOLA so both places are home to me. I moved from BR to NOLA full time right after college and there is just always something to do here.

I won’t speak for him, but I think I can elaborate: Metairie, along with Harahan, Kenner and even parts of the north shore are the last bastions of the white New Orleans middle class and blue collar types.

Walk into any grocery store, restaurant, small business etc. in these areas and you’ll encounter more “yat” types than you will in Orleans parish today. Of course, lakeview and parts of uptown are an exception.

The truth is in Orleans parish, carpetbaggers and transplants make up a large chunk of the city’s white population. Many of the people living in the suburbs of the city mentioned above are traditionally and culturally very old school New Orleans.

You nitpicked my entire statement and ended with “Yes, New Orleans is a shithole but let’s not act like Baton Rouge is some bastion of high class civility.” All while ignoring the first words of my statement:
