This as well. Maybe he won't love Ohio, but will realize he doesn't want to go back to LA either. Most of my friends here are transplants from all over the world(have several Mexican friends, a couple of Russian friends and one girl from Germany). For many of them...they lived in a couple other states/countries besides where they are from before they moved to AZ.

Leaving LA isn't bad. Leaving for LA for OH seems like a downgrade.

I left LA a long time ago, but I left the Southern region a few years ago to take a job in the West/Southwest. I learned about myself how deeply embedded the culture of the South is in me (especially when traveling back to the South for work).

Give it a good a year, then make your decision if you want to stay or not. Nothing has to be permanent, and you'll always look back with regret if you don't broaden your horizons and give it a shot.

It’s one of those situation where I applied and interviewed with no real expectation of getting it. Then 2 weeks ago I got a call from the person I interviewed with saying they would like to offer me the job. It took about 2 hours to really wrap my head around it

ETA: I’m not a power hungry company man who will stop at nothing for his career either. But I do have desire to be successful and provide for a family of my own one day

The mistake by the lake is ok but food is drab snow will turn black. The winter wind howls across Lake Erie and is much colder than Michigan. Jack's corned beef is great. Women can be a little dumpy with some attitude.

If I made a list of the places I’d like to move Ohio wouldn’t be in the top 15,000

I was just messing with you.

I moved out of LA last September 1st at 37. Not because I had to but because I wanted to in order to experience new things. I do miss home and go back to visit every few months, but leaving has been a great thing for me personally. I have experienced so much more, met some great people, and feel like I have a good quality of life. Not that I didn't in LA but it's just different. I am seriously considering moving again to another city or even country soon just to experience even more. I am only mad I didn't do it sooner. You need to embrace the experiences and in a year from now you won't be the same person you are today which is how it should be.

I will eventually make my way back to LA I am sure but for now I am taking everything in that I can and enjoying it. I suggest you do the same and I wish you the best in your new experiences.

You must buy 3 pairs long underwear.

And a long waisted down jacket with hood.

2 pair gloves. One cotton. Ok for fall and spring and driving. One pair serious for cold days. 1 pr mittens.

Keep dress shoes in drawer at work. Light water proof boots outside.

Its not just that you are down wind of a huge lake and it will snow randomly from thanksgiving until May even if there is no actual low pressure because a n wind will pick up moisture from lake until it freezes over. There will be weeks of single digit temps.

A garage space is a must.

You’ll find out what it’s like not living in one of the worst ranked states in the union.

I love Louisiana. Just have no desire to live there.

That's quite the hyperbole, friend.

Nah. Not colder than Michigan.
Mich is so deep, its 39 degrees at bottom mid summer.

Erie shallow, teeny by comparison.

If you enjoyed hunting and fishing in Louisiana, you can still enjoy them. Try to find a club that hunts and even contact the county agents to ask if you get a kill and can't use it, if they have a program to distribute meat to the needy.

Go to church. Mostly good people there and many are welcoming.

Make yourself a Tshirt that says "Moved here after LBJ left. Tell me about him." Guarantees to meet people who talk sports.

Enjoy.

Northeast Ohio is the Yankee part.

Great high school hoops.
Very good high school football.

More Unitarians and Jews than you are used to. 3rd generation polish people success stories.

Ditto - worse mistake I probably ever made was in my mid-20's leaving Austin and coming back to Baton Rouge/New Orleans

I’ll be living just outside of Cleveland

I've spent a lot of time in the Cleveland area. The city is so so but some of the suburbs are nice. It's a different kind of cold up there on that lake baw. Outside of winter the weather is great though.

The women aren't as attractive as Southern women on average but there are obviously exceptions. The local food isn't as good either except for Italian food which is better.

Midwestern people are pretty friendly. There's all major professional sports, some great golf courses too if that's your thing.

You are young and single. It will be an adventure. It's not like you are stuck there if you don't like it.
