In a couple weeks I’ll be moving to Northeastern Ohio. Recently applied for a promotion within my company that I didn’t think I had a shot in hell of getting and they actually offered it to me. With the salary and benefits this is an opportunity I can’t pass up.

I’m in my late twenties. Never been married and have no kids but my family is here who I’m very close with. Never lived outside of Louisiana or more specific South Louisiana at that. The closer I get to the move date the more anxious it makes me thinking about leaving my home state. Yes, Louisiana can be a shite hole but it is my home.

I know a few you baws have left South LA for greener pastures. What was your transition like?

Your first autumn is going to be mind-blowingly awesome. Your first winter will be miserable. Your first spring will be like being reborn. Your first summer will be a breeze. You'll look back on LA and miss it, but you'll be glad you left.

Congratulations. Only thing that sucks are the Winters but you’ll enjoy the change.

You will miss your family and the food but it’s a quick flight away.

I left almost 20 years ago and have never looked back.

Best move I ever made was leaving LA after LSU. I have lived in Florida and Texas since then. My kids were born in DFW area and we are still here. The quality of life and public schools cannot be beat. Only thing I miss about LA is the people and the food. That’s what visiting is for.

Lots of hillbillies in Ohio. Won’t feel much different, until November.

It will always be home. Look at moving as an adventure. You’ll probably meet your SO there and who knows what other good things will happen there. You can always move back home later.

You're doing a good thing and you're about to change some. Geet a friend(better if southern) or girl or you won't make it.

I think there is an airport in Ohio. Use some of your new disposable income on flights if you don’t want to miss anything. For less than $4k/yr, you could fly home every month.

I was so happy to leave. But..I was also leaving behind a really shitty situation...so anything different from that was welcoming to me back then.

Good luck with your move. Just know family and friends in LA are always a phone call or plane ride away.

Look and see if there is an LSU alumni chapter where you are moving to. If so, connect with them. A great way to meet others from LA to not feel so homesick and a fun way to watch LSU games away from LA.

Ohio is the armpit of America.

Congrats on the promotion though.

I've got relativees in southern Ohio who like to fancy themselves as Southerners. I like to remind them that they're redneck Yankees

I might be moving soon as well, to Denver. Thankfully, I have a bunch of Louisiana ex-pats living there from my home town to help me through the transition.

I always pictured clean cut families wearing big smiles snowsledding in the street with faint Christmas music playing in the background
