Both, kind of. I didn't necessarily care for him but I understood his appeal.

I am friends with a few local chefs that spent substantial time with him. One was with him on multiple shows and traveled with him.

They say he was one of those people that comes off as an a-hole at first glance until you got to know him. He showed a true interest in whatever the discussion was and listened far more than he talked when the camera was off.. He was the heavy drinker shown on TV, One friend who tried keeping up with him said there were scenes that showed up that he could not remember filming.

I liked No Reservations because he did not take himself too seriously and the show was not a cookie cutter of everything else out there. He was also willing to admit when he was wrong such as his opinion on Foie Gras.

I think the answer may lie somewhere in the middle but I lean awesome.

Insane that so many on this board hate him for killing himself when it was blatantly obvious he was murdered just like Chris Cornell, Avicci, and Chester Bennington.

I think we as a society have started to crab bucket, hard. Hell, you see it with athletes who go from hero to hated on here if they take a single political stance people disagree with

Americans have always been a puritanical bunch.

The change in the last decade of making politics a primary cultural marker has only made crabbucketing worse.

America is full of tards that do what they’re told while thinking they do as they please. The self righteousness is not surprising.

can next to guarantee that Bourdain brought more joy, excitement, and wonder into the world than you would in a dozen lifetimes. And yet his 11 year old daughter is probably pretty heartbroken that she has to grow up without her father because he was weak bitch.

He was a tortured soul. Amazing he loved as long as he did.

He’s declaring his perspective as superior in the name of authenticity and culture.

I’d like to try local food if I travel somewhere, but I’m not going to get upset at others if they don’t. I don’t care what another person eats.

To me, this is the same as any other iteration of telling people what their preferences should be. He isn’t the arbiter of taste. He’s just another guy and to act like he has a secret to being when he was living a depressed life makes me think he’s pretentious.

In all seriousness, when Tony was found dead, he had a red string tied around his neck. The red string is symbolism used in a lot of the art rituals performed by “artist” Marina Abramovic. Tony’s ex wife has serious ties to the spirit cooking witch lady Abromovic as well as to the Podestas. That’s why Bordain has an episode where he literally eats Vietnamese food with President Obama.

One of the Podestas is allegedly Chester’s father (by rape of Chester’s mother), and Chris Cornell was like Chester’s adoptive father figure. Chester and Cornell were allegedly working on a documentary about high level human trafficking and sexual abuse of children because Chester grew up abused in that environment. Avicci had a whole charity dedicated to the thing. His last music video before he died was about children being trafficked by cartel members and being bought by politicians.

This shite is all connected, and it ain’t even subtle.

Bourdain strikes me as the kind of person who goes out with the friend group, complains about everything, rolls his eyes at every suggestion, but still plays a long and jokes with everyone but still comes across like a sourpuss. And then, the next day tells you one on one what a great time he had and how much he appreciated being invited along.

Liked him a lot when he was alive.... he was a skillful writer that brought a lot of attention to the booming food scene. I'd say he was one of the main people that catapulted the food scene and brought it to where it is today, in mainstream media.
