Hit by a truck (driver was very kind and helpful, apologetic). It's hard enough hoping he felt loved toward the end, transitioning to being an outside dog in the last couple years and us being busy the last few months during the evenings with new house projects and a growing toddler to give attention to. Other baby things. Work. But he had room, and we played with him.

The toddler wanting to feed him this evening and asking where he was while playing with the other dog (who has her own grief already)...that's the killer. Whistling (in a toddler way) for him. Saying he'll like his food, "Really, really good." Wanting to throw to him.

The two most innocent ones hurt the most. Now I'm hurting for my toddler. We lost a family member.

Never begrudge giving just one more hug.

I’m so sorry Bar… his pic collage shows a happy, goofy pal- I know that’s a huge loss. I’m especially sad for his toddler and pup pal.

All dogs really do go to Heaven. He’s waiting patiently for all of you. (((hugs)))

Sorry to hear that. Im missing my ankle biters right now. I've been on a two week vacation and they have been the only thing I've been worried about since I've been gone.

Why?

They were inside and outside dogs. They spent tons of time outside but slept in a kennel inside, so the transition was fine. With the new baby, baths for the dogs got less frequent, we were in a small house anyway, etc., and when we found a tick on the baby, it was definitely time for the dogs to just be porch dogs.

They've been fine, but now that he's gone, I wonder if he felt less loved for it. Probably a silly thought, but absence brings out the guilt.

Thanks, all. He was the only "me" dogs I've had. There's nothing like a dog's adoration. It's unmatched.

It's the required hard pat right behind the shoulder we all want to do. Condolences.
