This happened to me @ Philly airport (real shocker I know ) for this same exact reason accept we did a touch and go with front tire down, then it felt like straight up. We were told over the intercom -MANY LONG minutes later- that we did not have permission to land.

The pilot spoke with a Brit accent maybe he forgot, was tired?

Air traffic controllers fricked up here. Someone should get fired or at least suspended over this.

we don't know that for sure, sometimes pilots don't quite understand the command given and will be too proud to ask for it to be repeated. Other times they miss the stop line and enter an active runway.

As for the plane landing, the whole "fast action" of the pilot is as simple as hitting the "go around" button.

I dont mind flying. You have a better chance of being seriously injured in a car wreck.

Lots of things it could have been...ground controller giving permission to cross incorrectly, the taxiing aircraft crossing without permission, or the plane on final being on the wrong runway/not cleared to land.

Yeah, ATC had that timed perfectly IMO. That's how you run an efficient operation,

Here's the incident summary from the Aviation Herald website for anyone who is interested.

It looks like a Barcelona air traffic controller error.

We had to do that last Sunday flying back to DEN from SLC. We may not have been that close to touching down, but the wheels were down and we couldn't have been more than 100' off the deck before the jets went full throttle and we started to go back up.

ETA: the pilot came on about halfway through our flyaround and said another plane was slow getting out of the way. Landed just fine on the next pass.

I've had that happen as well.

And yeah, I can imagine the people on the right side of the plane had a bit of a reaction when they felt themselves pulling out in front of it. Whoops.

I don't think this is actually true. The pilots are actually supposed to repeat every command received back to air traffic to ensure they didn't mishear anything. The rule exists because of accidents from many years ago where the command wasn't heard correctly.

By many orders of magnitude. I'm almost positive everyone here has had MUCH closer calls of being killed in auto situations.

That's actually why I prefer flying. The pilot landing handled it like a boss. If those are cars, someone is getting t-boned.

This was most likely ATC's fault for letting him cross the hold short line. Can't tell without audio though.

Here's another example:

There should be a law that if their asses exceed the width of the aisle, they have to fricking stop flying!

I was flying with a friend of mine and he tried to land while a jet was about to take off. That's what made me not get my license.

Same thing happened on my flight to Dallas, we were about to touch down and the pilot throttles it back and we "take off" again. The guy sitting closest to pilot said another plane crossed our path on the runway. I was dripping bullets.about 15 years ago.
