City of Lafayette is trying to pass restrictions as well.

Fayetteville enacted city registration hoops as well. Some owners have attempted to skirt the new regs and have been caught and fined by the city. Lots of fans/parents who booked those properties in advance have been left to scramble for new accommodations due to recent cancelations.

There is an air bnb in my neighborhood and noone has a problem with it

Guy bought house next door to my parents
Made it an AirBNB
It caused a ton of problems for everyone on the street, parking issues from parties, loud music in the middle of the night, fights, people walking through yards…
Enough people complained he made it a long term rental, the people just moved out & he’s now trying to sell it

BIGGER govt

Didn’t see anywhere that said they were hiring additional employees to enforce or regulate. This is what the people of NY and many other areas want.

Yes, I do. I am also celebrating a possible diminishment of corporations buying up housing and pricing people out of the market creating a permanent renting class.

Lame retort. Sometimes intervention is needed to keep area values up. Zoning exists for a reason and has for decades. It's nothing new.

Again, how would you feel if I bought the lot next to you, named it AirT&D, and skirted regulations by turning it into a dump site for people using an app?

Would you suddenly want to stop it or let it happen because you are a "Small government Republican"

I think restricting short term rentals is a proper function of local government zoning boards. If they have a say on housing density and where hotels go, it makes sense for them to decide what neighborhoods can be taken over by air bnbs as they are ostensibly similar to hotels. It’s not like air bnbs are largely just homeowners renting out their place while on vacation. The overwhelming bulk of them are owned by large real estate investment companies.

True. But that same govt restricts anyone building a chicken farm next to your house as well.

If I didn’t want something next to me I’d buy the property myself. I believe if you own land you should be able to do what you want with it

You would be if they built a ton of Section 8 houses right next to you.

My parents have a small vacation condo -- I was on a Zoom call last year with the condo association attorney and all the owners about new bylaws. The association wants to add a bunch of restrictions/requirements over things like AirBNB and many owners don't. It's an ugly battle and I understand both sides of it.

I can see it's a problem. Last year I rented an apartment in Hells kitchen for $320 a night. They make a lot more in str than long term. The owner was like "tell people you just moved in, if anyone asks this isn't an airbnb".
International travel I prefer airbnb because you get a house or apartment. Hell it makes Disney so much better to have a house with a pool at the end of the day.
But in the US I stick to apartments.
I have 3 airbnbs lined up for the next few weeks in Cartagena.
