Unique by Webster definition means being one of a kind; unlike anything else. Finding other intelligent life means we are not, in fact unique. Maybe we are special, but how? touchy feely emotional 5-year old "I'm special!"? If we are special, and they are special, then no one is really special after all.

I wholeheartedly disagree. There will be differences between us and them. We are still unique as are they.

And I wanna bang an alien too.

Yeah. More details are needed. Everyone associated with NASA believes, if successful, the JWST will change how we view our position in the universe. For all we know, they could be talking about that.

What if aliens showed up and had their own Bible? What if they said they wrote all the religious texts on Earth? People acting like a discovery of intelligent life would have no bearing on the religions of Earth are once again bending and reshaping those religions to accommodate science like they have so many times in the past.

And what if their religious texts matched ours?

There is nothing in religion (Catholicism) that says science is bad. Matter of fact, thank the Jesuits for their contributions.

I am a catholic, and I believe what I believe. I will continue to believe what I believe abd finding aliens won't change that. I don't see why that's hard to accept.

So after reading the below, if aliens were also created by God, which they would have to be based on religious theory that God created the universe, would those aliens also be unique and have an immaterial spirit? If so, would they not share heaven with humans? If so, does heaven look like the bar from star wars?

quote:

Answer: On the last day of creation, God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness” (Genesis 1:26). Thus, He finished His work with a “personal touch.” God formed Adam from the dust and gave him life by sharing His own breath (Genesis 2:7). Accordingly, humanity is unique among all God’s creations, having both a material body and an immaterial soul/spirit. Having the “image” or “likeness” of God means, in the simplest terms, that we were made to resemble God. Adam did not resemble God in the sense of God’s having flesh and blood. Scripture says that “God is spirit” (John 4:24) and therefore exists without a body. However, Adam’s body did mirror the life of God insofar as it was created in perfect health and was not subject to death.
