That's a relief. At least we will know that there is some intelligent life out there somewhere.

Perhaps there are dimensions in heaven. Perhaps God created aliens in his image and that image is different for them. I have no damn clue.
Quick question: if aliens said, "hey guys, you are totally right about God." Would you then convert?
Atheists are the SJWs of thelogy. They just can't accept that people don't agree with them...

yes, atheists are the stubborn ones

If an advanced life form came to earth and said I had it all wrong, I would examine why they feel that way. If I came to the same conclusion, I would change my position. If they came and said we had it all right, would you change yours?

I am a catholic, and I believe what I believe. I will continue to believe what I believe abd finding aliens won't change that. I don't see why that's hard to accept.
Not hard to accept. As a religious person, I can appreciate the depth of your faith. That being said, the vast majority of Catholics or even the broad stroke of all christian religions do not share that strength of convictions. It's going to be difficult for firm believers to "hold down the fort" when there are a billion people questioning how much they really matter.
All that being said, I still wholeheartedly disagree with your whole "he's unique and special, I'm unique and special; EVERYONE'S UNIQUE AND SPECIAL!" perspective. On that we can just agree to disagree and clank glasses.

I would be stoked.
would fundamentally change the world.
religions would slowly die off, no longer being able to claim 'special' creation. Science and the want to explore space would increase in both public aspiration and public/private funding. A whole generation of kids would be inspired to lead humanity into the void and the things accomplished would be awesome.

I would question that if we "were right all along", why did we have so many things wrong in the bible?

So after reading the below, if aliens were also created by God, which they would have to be based on religious theory that God created the universe, would those aliens also be unique and have an immaterial spirit? If so, would they not share heaven with humans? If so, does heaven look like the bar from star wars?
Yes and yes. When God created man in his image, that image wasn't a physical template, but an intellectual one, free will and the ability to contemplate the purpose of its own decisions.
I see no reason why discovery of extra-terrestrial life would change one's fundamental understanding of Judeo-Christian teaching.

I can accept you don't believe in a higher being and not be snarky about it. It's your right. Can you say the same?

All I know is "Scientist" disprove themselves all the time.
I want to believe I really do but what once was fact becomes fiction, so forgive me if I'm skeptical of some "Scientist" who's budget is based on their "Findings" tells me something is fact by looking at an object billions of miles away in a freaking telescope.
Hey, I got an idea.. How about figuring out the weather 3 days from now accurately before trying to tell what is "Fact" 3 billion light years away from earth...

In all fairness, it would be a theory not fact. Science is awesome. The fact that it continues to prove/disprove itself makes it one of the world's legitimate truths.

Sure, everyone has the right to believe whatever they want to believe, even scientologists. It's when they start to use those beliefs to judge/discriminate against/hate others that my chili gets hot.
And, I simply cannot convince myself to believe something that either logic disagrees with, or which science has proven/disproven.

Exactly. Science continues to grow and change as new information and discoveries come to light. Religion does not.

Care to help me understand how religion is evolving based on new learnings and how we as a society evolve?
Posted on 6/26/17 at 1:44 pm to touchdownjeebus
Yes I would, because if something with a 10,000 IQ started telling me things I would probably consider their views over whatever I've formed in my lifetime. I think most atheists and agnostics would be ecstatic if beings that are as superior to us as we are to ants showed up and said yes it is exactly like it is written in that book, but if they said no those books are nonsense you would "examine" how they feel that way and after this examination compare your conclusion? It's fascinating to me that people who spend their whole lives devoted to a superior being they can't see could encounter actual superior beings and if those beings said something that contradicted a book they would say whoa hold up explain yourself.
