This isn't a cry to "unveil yee'selves!", but moreso a challenge of purpose for what reason is it such a blasphemy to leak identity?

i'm so glad maximus dumped you. he deserved and found someone much better. sure you're very very pretty & fine, but how much spousal abuse can your hubby take before enough is enough? again, you're incredibly fine & good looking.

Over the years I have probably met over 100 posters, most from the Outdoor Board or Food Board. I have found that the online personalities of most matches their IRL personalities, but almost none look like I would picture.
Some of those posters have become pretty good friends. 10 posters took a trip to South Dakota for a pheasant and duck hunt. 30+ posters helped with a fund raiser when another poster with a young family passed away. We raised over 100k for the family.
I was recently at a wedding for a poster and there were 14 others there. None that knew each other prior to the board. It is just a little hard to explain how you know someone. Yea, this is my internet friend.

I'm pretty much exactly the same IRL as I post here.

If my past 4 usernames all had different personalities, should my next one be Sybil?
(Never been an alter - just had to keep re-joining.)

the best thing i ever did on TD was start IRLing. i've met lots of OTers and hang out and backchannel with them often. if i haven't met you yet, well...i guess you just don't mean that much to me.

All the people I know from TD are good people.
Except threeputt.
If I see that a-hole again, I'm beating that nerd's arse.

Being anonymous allows some things to be said a little more freely. But as I have said before if someone really wanted to find out who I am I don't think the pieces would be too hard to put together based off of what I've said about myself. A lot of that information is out there pretty openly on the internet. I haven't put a lot of effort into making myself anonymous. It's not like my IRL identity is anything interesting anyway.

Nah. I hate Facebook and Instagram

I have other boards where I've met/befriended dozens of people IRL over the years and post pics with abandon. The vibe is different here. There's a lot of attention that comes with losing anonymity, especially for women. It is mildly terrifying to see it explode.
I think this sums it up. There were lots of "meet and greets", get together, ect from the old Tidesports Board. Also, many of us are friends on Facebook.
This place however seems totally different. I do commercial heating and air in Atlanta and during the course of conversation, when things turn to sports, and the customer is from La., Tigerdroppings comes up eventually. I've noticed that while we may have conversations about things on The Rant/OT, there is an unwritten rule that we never bring up who we are on here.

That wasn't really the point of the thread. While yes, I was quite drunk when it was written last night...
I'm really proud of the OT for receiving the message.
Except for skillet who is still putting on a front and hardlegging wantonly.
I think a lot of posters here agree that "It's freeing to be anonymous" and I'm wondering why the need to hide behind the anonymity of username to be the douche they think they need/want to be without this insulation.
And hey, one alter was uncovered.. so I guess this was a win
