My parents were slower to catch on, but this past week they’ve finally gone all in with the whole social distancing thing. The only semi-frustrating issue is that they don’t want to let anyone else to go out for them when they do need something, because (ironically) they’re more afraid of either passing it on or feeling responsible for someone else catching it than they are of getting sick themselves. At least they’re totally independent and in great shape for their age, so their trips out are quick and infrequent.
Given the general DGAF attitude of a lot of their fellow boomers, though, it doesn’t surprise me that the way they’re reacting might not be all that typical.

This was exactly the case in the airports last weekend. Bunch of college kids incorrectly wearing N95s and a bunch of old people drinking coffee.

We have posts here about people going to stores and they see old people, and don't realize the utter stupidity of of criticizing someone for doing exactly what the criticized is doing.
If stores are open, people will be out and about.

In general Americans don't give a shite until it affects their pocket book or infects someone they love. That is why there is no way to contain this virus. We are just praying for warm weather to destroy this virus. If it doesn't we are in deep shite. Both our economy and our mental sanity

My In-Laws are sheltering in and I think over doing it a bit.
Both are in their eighties, but in reasonably good health. FIL still has a little garden and cuts his own grass. MIL in a few lady senior groups. Both get around OK.
MIL calls the other day to see if we’re going to the store. She doesn’t want to go outside.
We get her groceries go bring them to her, because we were out in public told us to leave them just inside the door on the floor.
Didn’t want us to go inside.
Both are in their eighties, but in reasonably good health. FIL still has a little garden and cuts his own grass. MIL in a few lady senior groups. Both get around OK.
