For sure, which is why they can probably handle social distancing.
But 900 isn't huge either when it comes to a high school population, so if they are struggling, like I said, a lot of schools that size or larger may be in the same spot.

I don't see the high schools playing football (or any other contact sport) if we are still in Phase 2.
The colleges are struggling with how to make it work, and they have a lot more resources than the high schools do.

One would hope, but we can't forget the number of kids with no computer at home, or less than one computer per child. It's going to be challenging for a lot of families, and will impact the poor far more.

Record setting unemployment, businesses closed everywhere, schools closed everywhere, and that was only for 2 months on a short term basis and everyone knew it was a short term thing. If this happens in the fall, there will be no end in sight. People will riot if they think they’ll lose their jobs and their kids will have no care or schooling for an extended period. People want to go back to normal

There are rumors that St. Bernard will announce something this week.
I think once the first couple of systems announce, the rest will come in line pretty quickly.
Regardless of the decisions made, parents have to start making plans, they can't wait until the last minute.

Much less how do you keep them from killing themselves at home? Kids that age shouldn’t be staying home by themselves everyday. Something is bound to happen

I don't think it's ever a "bad" thing but for many families it's not a realistic possibility.
And most of the SAH moms, well, they ain't too bright... so not sure how they are going to handle helping their kids with online learning...

Who has said it’s a bad thing? Unfortunately the way things are now that’s not possible for most families. We have the boomers to thank for that

I just assumed we were talking about the OPs scenario. I know the elementary school kids in school/middle and high NTI has been discussed here in Kentucky too. It makes sense.

My wife is freaking out at the thought of having to deal with these kids all day, every deal.

I think a lot of school systems are doing everything they can possibly think of, to keep elementary kids going to school, at least part-time. As it is, elementary classes tend to be smaller.

Day care situation is already a disaster. We are in Houston suburbs so may be different in Louisiana. But my 5 yr old use to go to one. But pulled her several months ago. Its mainly frontline workers, of doctors, police, EMS, firefighters, etc..would get report of a parent had it at least once a week and child would be quarantined at home for 14 days. Now last week got notice the person who we would be watching my little ones age group tested positive. Now those 9 kids have to be quarantined at home 14 days.
Its been that kind of situation at many places in our area. Many have stayed open but just barely as numbers are really low

Most parents were at home in March too because their employers were shut down. Now things are opening back up and people are going back to work, so who is going to stay at home with younger students while the parents have to go to work every day? That $800/week unemployment will be over before school starts too, so people won't be able to afford to keep staying at home.
Parents also probably expected more out of the schools when it came to remote learning. I know I didn't expect that all that would happen is I'd get an email or 2 per week with assignments and the kids would have 1 Zoom video call with their teacher per week, of which maybe 25% of the class actually participated in.
Even if you're lucky enough to be able to work from home, parents realized how tough it is to juggle working at home while simultaneously trying to home school their kids...especially if they had multiple kids with all different lessons because they're in different grades and/or if they have a toddler in the house that needs constant parental attention.
